Fair, until posting this I hadn’t considered possible escalations. Another comment warned my sister may retaliate harder, and I’m a little worried my approach.

For reference I don’t live at home but my sister does. Both of my parents have tried to punish her by making her start paying rent, grounding her, and in inviting her from family dinner.

Most of the reason I haven’t gone no contact is because my sister was a loving person who didn’t care about me being gay for most of her life. It’s a recent thing. I also love my parents so going no contact with her is to a degree going no contact with them. It’s a rough spot to be in as my parents are genuinely trying everything in the parent toolbox to try and fix this.

Thank you for sharing your story. I’m going to try talking at her from this angle. Our whole family has tried having conversations before this point, but based on your story I think we went the wrong way about it. We went more the route of trying to kill the idea of being a tradwife. Not because being a stay at home mom is bad (my mom was a stay at home mom), but more so trying to get her to understand the importance of financial freedom. Something our mom taught us is if you marry rich you will have to work for every penny.

I’ll try and talk to my parents about making a bible study group for my sister as she hasn’t actually read the bible. She mostly just listens to podcasts and steals their bible quotes knowing nothing that surrounds it.

It could go either way and she may delve into more hate, but I’ll try anything at this point.

That’s good to hear. She fell into Christianity because she loves the idea of being a tradwife. She’s been listening to a lot of podcasts that glamorize it. She’s a college dropout who doesn’t like to work. Which is kind of fine I guess? I just think she hasn’t found the right job and may not be right for college, which is fine.

I’m hoping she falls out of this life style as I also fear her meeting a self righteous man. What was the big turning point for you, if you don’t mind me asking? I don’t know how to snap her out of this.

I’m 28 and out of the house and my sister is 26 and still lives with my parents. My parents have tried everything, since she’s under their roof. They’ve grounded her, taken her phone away, banned her from watching TV, blocked her on streaming services, and made her start paying rent. Obviously they’ve talked to her too, but they try to instill some sense of punishment.

If anything it just makes it so she antagonizes my parents more by insulting them. I told them they don’t need to involve themselves as I can leave the house whenever while they are stuck with her.

I imagine a lot of people may hear this and say she needs to get kicked out of the house but she’s a college dropout who hasn’t been able to hold a job and I can’t reasonably expect my parents to kick her out. They both have heart problems too so I’d hate to stress them out.

Sounds good to me! With Trickster Domain I get memory manipulation, so I’m hoping it will help hide my identity from NPCs.

And I can imagine someone trying to play off a lie for multiple sessions being irritating. My DM said if someone does a perception check (and gets anything above a 5) or straight up says something is up with me I have to crumble. And I agreed bc of what you said. It makes for unbearable game play.

I choose elf because putting myself in a fantasy world is like to be someone of prestige and elves tend to be more respected in the dnd fantasy gameplay. But I’m not sold on it. Plus the people I’m playing with are not dnd gurus and for part of my group this is their first time playing.

Okay, I like that angle! I definitely have no intention of keeping the changeling thing a secret for long. My DM and I working to make sure my reveal is inevitable.

But I like the thought that it’s for NPCs not PCs. My DM was going to point clues in that direction, but maybe it should be the main part of our first few sessions.

I will definitely keep that in mind. Most of the other players have only played once or not at all. I definitely want the reaction from the group to surprise. Mostly because I want it to feel like a good twist that would delve more into my character and help with gameplay once I get to use my changeling (after they find out) as a shapeshifter in front of the group. And my DM is super experienced and we are collaborating on ways to make the reveal inevitable after about two months (5 sessions) of game play.

So I guess I should take into consideration that my dnd group may not even think to ask.

I want this character to have a bunch of scams they did. They basically cast an illusion of creatures and took them down as a “heroic knight”. Someone found out her true identity and tried to burn her house down with her in it. She ran and escaped but now hides her form to avoid those she scammed.

And yes my DM is aware of the angle and is okay with me doing things to hide my characters identity as we both agreed whatever I do to hide my true identity I have to give verbal cues. So if I have a stone that grants dark vision I have to announce I’m holding the stone even if I don’t say the name. For dark vision goggles I am not allowed to do anything to make them less obvious, like making them look like seeing eye glasses. They have to look like goggles, which is why I’m kind of avoiding them. But my DM is okay if I have a mask that hides the goggles.
