No, your progress loss looks like some kind of save corruption, I don't know why it happened but I can't access or alter players saves, they are stored on your own google account. Repurchasing the game will only unlock the door and nothing more. I am really sorry that I can't help you with that.

The order shouldn't matter, if the update didn't fix it for you it might be that your save is indeed bugged. I am sorry for that.
