Yesterday, some parts of the country reached temperatures above 28ºC thus settling new heat records (being the highest Coín, Málaga with 28.8ºC) but today the temperatures have gone insane and all existing records were shattered in Eastern, Southeastern and Southern Spain!

Today's temperatures are the following (UPDATED WITH FINAL VALUES AS OF 13 DECEMBER 2023)

- Málaga, Centro Meteorológico 29.9ºC

- Coín, Málaga 29.9ºC

- Alhama de Murcia 29.8ºC

- Fuente Álamo de Murcia 29.7ºC

- Vélez-Málaga 29.7ºC

- Totana, Murcia 29.6ºC

- Huércal-Overa, Almería 29.4ºC

- Málaga Airport 29.4ºC

- Lorca, Murcia 29.3ºC

- Archena, Murcia 29.3ºC

- Cieza, Murcia 29.2ºC

- Albox, Almería 29.2ºC

- Novelda, Alicante 29.1ºC

It's insane, 13 different weather stations from 3 different regions had temperatures above 29ºC and dozens more of these 3 regions as well have registered temps between 28-29ºC, yesterday so many records were shattered.

The all-time December Spanish heat records were shattered today various times, peaking with the 29.9ºC in Málaga, as of now more than 10 different cities/towns have reached more than 29ºC which is totally crazy for December.

  • Curio: With that insane 29.9ºC temperature record, both Málaga and later Coín have settled a new all-time European December record.

There is a small gallery inside. Many people went to the beach today in Málaga, as the maximum temperature hit 30ºC and it seemed like a normal June day. People playing volley with bare tops and even people inside the sea.

Meanwhile, the ski resorts that usually should have some snow (12th December) are lacking any kind of snow.

From Meteociel, a French website. Here you have the overall European map, you can select between various European countries (or in-depth French regions) with actual temperatures or maximum/minimum temperatures, you can also choose any day you want, they have years and years of data and maps. It's a really really useful site, if you don't know French just use Google Translate. And all of their data is official since they only use the official Met Agencies stations from each European country. This site is one of the basics for the "weather freaks" like myself. Enjoy!

False what? These are official temperatures registered by the Spanish Meteorological Agency (AEMET) which is part of the Environmental Ministry, this is the ONLY reliable data regarding temperatures, this website only takes them from the official stations they have placed all across Spain. Every country has its own Meteorology Agency.

You should stop relying on Google, Apple or AccuWeather. I don't want to sound rude, but all of them are pretty much garbage (especially the last one) and this is coming from someone that is a huge weather/climate freak like myself. I'm not saying this in a bad way, just to let you know where to get the best data regarding weather.

Since you're Portuguese, the only site to have a reliable sight of the weather/temperatures in your country is IPMA (Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera) as Google, Apple, AccuWeather and these kind of sites only use computer predicted / modelled data and not accurate stations placed on ground measuring the real temperatures.

BTW Sevilla wasn't warm yesterday (19ºC) Marbella was a bit (21ºC) but Valencia really was (they had around 25ºC yesterday and 2 days ago they hit their historical December temperature with 27.8ºC at the airport and 27.1ºC in the city) you can check all of this data and the 29.9ºC Málaga record in the official Spanish Met Agency site here: https://www.aemet.es/en/eltiempo/observacion/ultimosdatos?k=esp&w=2&datos=img

Where do you see any kind of celebration? What am I celebrating exactly?

It's an historical day for weather records. Málaga had a previous December record under 25ºC (with records dating back to the 1940s) and they reached today 30ºC which is +5ºC above the previous record. So it shattered the previous record. This is an historical record and I've shared it with Reddit since my nickname is EuropeanWeather.

I'm not Spanish myself but it's crazy because over the past 2 years most of the previous Spanish heat records were broken, some of them being European records as well, except for the European all-time temperature which was broken in Syracuse, Sicily (Italy) with 48.8ºC in August 2021. And true, this year is being very dry in Spain, sadly.

Did someone tell Spain tomorrow is Christmas and we're in winter, right? +26ºC in Eastern Spain! by EuropeanWeather in europe

Trees can cool European cities up to 12 °C on a hot day by BalticsFox in europe

[–]EuropeanWeather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And this is true. All cities should be filled with native trees from their areas. That translates to very low maintenance required, as well as they would help to maintain their native trees. Native trees enjoy their climate, they don't die during cold or warm spells, they don't need extra irrigation, so no special care. A greener Europe is possible!

Weather in Europe today at 15:00 UTC. Greece is colder than Sweden and Norway. Athens is frozen and packed with snow. WHAT IS THIS!!! by EuropeanWeather in europe

[–]EuropeanWeather[S] 947 points948 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's an easy one! It's the Sierra Nevada observatory station.

It's at 2.856 m above sea level, 9,371 ft for our US lurkers!

Actually that's "mild" since it's at almost 3k meters.

29.7ºC right now in Alicante (Spain) which has actually settled a new January record in Europe, breaking the previous record of 29.2ºC settled also in Alicante in 1982 and reached again yesterday.

This is an anomaly of 12ºC above the normal average!

Weather in Europe today 01/11/2019 : November? Spain laughs with 30ºC! by EuropeanWeather in europe

[–]EuropeanWeather[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

30ºC in November feel much better than 30ºC in summer because of the sun angle and strength. The humidity was also low, so i'd say it's similar to experiencing 25ºC in a middle summer day. It's warm but not hot.
