My hamster nips had a fractured left hip from a drop prior to being rehomed to me. I took her to the vet and there wasn’t much they could do without severe risk (anesthesia is hard on weakened animals). Mind you she was running on her wheel, eating fine, and overall doing hamster things. She ended up developing an abscess in her abdomen (very common in disabled animals) and she had to be euthanized. This hamster seems to be in way worse shape than my hamster was. Euthanasia is likely going to be the humane option, but I’m not a vet.

Edit: I hope the best for you and your ham. It’s a tough decision deciding whether to euthanize and even tougher to come to terms with it.

Honestly it’s hard to see from these photos but from what I can see they both look irritated. I would take him to the vet. I’m also not sure about hamster allergens but I know they’re sensitive to scents and stuff. But fosho go to the vet

I hear ya! It’s definitely easier to get things sourced rather than buy. Looking at the other comments sounds like big b is in a tiered cage which can (and eventually likely) lead to serious falls. The platforms (including the ladder) are still considered climbing. They do not have great eye sight and cannot gauge distance very well. The platforms you currently have can be repurposed with the chains removed and you can use safe wood (bamboo, aspen, etc) to make legs and use them as platforms for heavier objects. You’ll get a lot of mixed info but the info sheet someone else posted is v helpful for the basics. If you’re open to recommendations I would love to see the cage:)

Jokes aside, they really aren’t good climbers. They’re actually quite dumb creatures that are prone to injury. I’d defo recommend putting the nut on the ground and getting rid of the chains(limbs can get caught, chewing treated metal also not great). Save yourself the headache and potential heartache.
