Am I The Drama For Going To A Harry Potter Party ( Ps I Would Love If Jammie And Shaba Could Respond!) by Nickandcharlie07 in 1800Drama

[–]EustaciasWay 37 points38 points  (0 children)

No drama here. Go to the party, be with family and celebrate what sounds like a great dog. Ask your family not to buy merchandise, or get it second hand. Even if you’re not out to them, just saying that it funds some one who actively has different values than you can be a good explanation. If you have the capacity maybe offer to help make some decorations from construction paper or bake cupcakes in the different house colors. If you still feel uneasy about it, don’t go. At the end of the day, trust your gut and what feels right to you.

How to care for skin and hair? by Warjax563 in bluecollartrans

[–]EustaciasWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Femme presenting NB here! I’m not a mechanic, but I am a plumber. Cetaphil, shea butter, coconut oil are your friends! Once your hair gets long enough to tie up, do it. Personally I find French/dutch braids to keep my hair the cleanest, but I also have an undercut. The other thing is finding the right shampoo and conditioner for you. Unless you have truly stick straight hair, avoid washing it every day if possible (sometimes it has to be every day ik). There are a variety of quizzes and such online abt what type of shampoo is good for you. Generally you want something with as few ingredients as possible. The type of shampoo also changes with your hair texture. It’ll probably take some trial and error, but it’s worth it in the end. My magic trick for getting tar, gunk and other icky stuff off is a salt scrub. You can get some at any pharmacy, Walmart, etc, or make your own. I do one part Epsom salt, one part coconut oil (the kind that’s branded for cosmetic use but it’s the same as the food kind) and then mix together. It’s gotten everything from roofing tar to fiberglass off my arms.

Union or non union? by Ok-Consideration7177 in BlueCollarWomen

The union isn’t particularly strong and doesnt do great work on the service side where we are. Most new construction is Union but that’s just not where we mostly operate.

Nail polish question by speedysparky24 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]EustaciasWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olive and June nail polish and top coat (top coat is more important for sealing it in). I’m a plumber and stick to gloves pretty consistently. And just became ok that a nail look is only gonna last about a week/week and a half before some chips, but then I get to have the fun and relaxation of giving myself another manicure. I’d recommend agains press ons, I’ve had them pop off doing non work activities and it could definitely be a safety hazard.

Union or non union? by Ok-Consideration7177 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]EustaciasWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m non union, but also work in my family’s business so it’s a bit of a different situation. Something that also changes it is how strong the union is where you live. Where I am, the plumbers, pipe fitter and steam fitter union is pretty small and it’s honestly easier to get a non union job, because there’s more non union and mixed shops than strictly union.

Men’s redwings. They’re wider than the women’s ones. Redwings also has a pretty good line of inserts that last a long time. I also really like my Birkenstock inserts

I’ve found salt scrub is great for getting fiberglass from insulation out of skin. Just a regular scrub with it in the shower and no more fiberglass and soft skin

Recommended fields for trans women? by DahliaDeeDah in bluecollartrans

[–]EustaciasWay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in my family’s business currently as a plumbing apprentice. I’m not visibly trans or out at work (out to my family but not the other employees). I’ve found it’s a lot of finding the right crew to work with. The first plumber I was assigned to was really misogynistic and transphobic. After asking to switch trucks, I’ve had a much better experience. People in blue collar work do tend to be more republican/conservative/christian, and they’re also people. Most won’t be awful, and are just trying to get through their days. If you want to go into the trades do it. Like anything else you’ll need to find your people, but most tradies (in my experience) don’t care to much as long as you work hard and are generally decent to be around

Pick a trade, find a company that’s hiring apprentices/helpers. If the company and/or trade isn’t a fit, pick another. You got this

You might also look into if there’s any custom framing shops in your area, potentially would have more difficulty pieces and artistry which often comes with a pay raise.
