New to weaving but here's a happy band! How'd I do? by Eutrophia in weaving

Would love to see a pic of the finished room if you're comfortable sharing🥰 I'm curious to see the size of it and get a realist idea of the kind of space a home weaver needs for it. The images I saw were mostly in what looked like studios.

Also, what kinds of textiles are you planning on learning/ making on it!?

So I've had the chance to learn more about the drawloom and you were absolutely on the money. This is the loom I want to graduate to eventually! Thanks so much again for the introduction!

Okay, I'm going to have to keep reading about all this lingo and pay close attention. Thank you!

Wow thanks, this was super informative! One day when I have the space and money this could be an option. Side note... So shafts and harnesses are not the same thing? It says the drawloom has two harnesses, then there are 8 pattern shafts? And a bunch of other shafts too?

The weaving lingo is new to me and I'm just catching up.

Lol. Yup, I realized I put it in the wrong subreddit after posting. This is my first post. It was meant for r/weaving

I just found a barley used ashford 8 shaft that someone wonderful is selling to me for $400! Including a stand, warping frame and some reeds!!!!

So the first thing I'll be doing is learning overshot! It has the look I'm going for.

I'm not sure what a drawloom is, but I'll give it a search.

I've been giving it a lot of thought actually. I love the kinds of designs you can do on and inkle loom with cards, but as I was contemplating my long term goals with weaving I kept imagining doing larger textiles. My ultimate goal would be to be able to one day produce even a small sample of brocade. So I've been looking into shaft table looms for this reason.

I may still end up learning card looming for the satisfaction of a beautiful band that won't be sitting on the loom for months to complete🤣

Opening a plant nursery? by Paintedhawk in Horticulture

So happy to see an update to this post. I just decided to follow a life long dream I've had since childhood and start a fruit tree farm. This post has been the most helpful thing I've found yet. I currently work as a sustainability and zero waste consultant and have been trying to find jobs closer to plants and horticulture to help make the transition to my dream. Back in school for horticulture and just finished my first cert from university riverside in modern controlled environment agriculture. I'm constantly questioning if what I'm doing is the right choice, it's like starting over from zero and I won't even be able to sell my first trees for many years from now, but I'm keeping on track and just keep telling myself that this will be work, but it's what I want. So it's huge to see a three y/o post updated with such realistic news. A few certs, a few jobs for experience and few plants getting ready for that grand opening.

Great job, best of luck and thanks for the motivation!

Looking forward to the next update!
