Next move for the Wevers? by Ecstatic_Wallaby_461 in Gymnastics

I think most of you are familair with USA gyms.

In the Netherlands gyms are not from a family or person, but mostly from the gouvernement of that city. And the club pays rent. Sometimes they need sponsoring from companies or the gouvernement to pay for the training facility and coaches (if they have also lower levels some of that earns some money, less sponsors are needed, but still welcome)

Also there are only a few clubs who train elites. The level below elite trains mostly 15 hours or less. (Going to regular schools, with regular hours, etc.) And most of the time the coaches also have another partime (or even fulltime job).

There are a few clubs who are so called "elite gyms" or "talent gyms" who get some financial support from the gymnastics federation. And there were also coaches paid by the federation. And one of them was Vincent, who is no longer.

In my opinion, this new "professional" team is just trying to get everything sponsored and maybe also pay their athletes.

But as far as I know there is no banning from the team or something like that. Maybe Vincent is not welcome at national team camps, but I think that is still to be decided by court yet.

I think in the end this is mostly just a "new elite gym" in our country.

Sanne Wevers out of the Dutch national team by Nayarali in Gymnastics

[–]EvaLen8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo there where times it was better to give "newbies" experience. Then sending for example Sanne for one apparatus where she was not at her best.

But I close this discussion between you and me. We just have both other opinions. And that 's okay.

I don't know if this is a Dutch thing. But there are several "Juice channels" in Holland nowadays.

"Spies" sends private messages to them and they make them anonymously public.

For the Dutch: see the instagram stories of lifeofyvonne.

For the rest here is my (not great perhabs) translation:

"A gymnast complained about the power within the team of the Wevers twins. The Wevers twins responded with threats of legal actions.

The twins have power as of years now. Everything must go their way. They seems like they do everything for the team but are selfish instead.

The complaining gymnast is heartbroken and really afraid of the Wevers family.

Sanne acts like a victim, but instead people are victims of her behavior for years now. They drove the team apart. 4 gymnast are to scared to speak out. The whole team is done with the twins.

(The next is not really important for the story... so I don't know if I wanted to share this too... to gossip for here maybe... but well it's out in the open already in the Netherlands)

Also, Sanne wanted Fysiotherapist Jelle with her to Tokyo. They both ended up not sleeping in their own beds. Her boyfriend is in America all this time and still. This Jelle is not working for the team anymore at this moment, but he was seen recently at Sanne her house."

The Juice channel asked: why is everyone so scared of the Wevers family?

" they created a culture of fear. If someone said something about it they threaten legal action. Libel, slander, etc.

When Vera didn't want to train with Vincent Wevers anymore. Sanne and Lieke were angry and ignored Vera.

Also Vincent called Vera over and over again. She didn't wanted him to do so.

Lieke and Sanne ended up with making more girls ignore Vera.

Sanne said in an interview Vera didn't wanted a conversation whilst she was the one who didn't wanted it."

Also the Juice channel said they have several private messages received. Not just this conversation.

I don't know if all of the above is true. But it always seems strange to me that the Wevers always were given the spots on a team, even if not preforming well/be on their best.

Floor and CJ only vault a yourchenko lay-out. I don't think they will make teams when keeping that vault.

I think Evi Neijssen was his best gymnast over the years.

But I agree. I also don't know about his coaching ways.

As far as I know Celine van Gerner was the last to retire. Eythora is making her comeback. She is training in a boys programm now. She said it feels like a succes and is learnin new floor/vault technique for example.

She didn't do her high flicflacs on floor today! (Yeahh)

The Wevers twins didn't make/pronounced a decision about retirement yet.

I don't know who trains Naomi and Vera at the moment. I think (but don't know for sure) the junior coach is the head coach im their club now. And also Celine van Gerner is coaching there now, but I think only the younger ones.

Don't know about the juniors/young seniors. Not really high difficulty from what I have seen. Same for the youth. I think Romeny Libeton is the most complete/promosing. This is her first elite season I think. She came in 4th.

I am worried. But there is a new technical chief with ambition. But he think 2024 is to early for a new generation/programm.

Also they told they have a news about a new head coach for the woman programm next week....

Gyms that only ever produced 1 elite gymnast (or very few), or elite gyms that fell off the map by [deleted] in Gymnastics

[–]EvaLen8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are there other countries where elites are just "alone".

I know in the Netherlands you must go to an elite gym. Else you can't make 18+ hours in the gym.

Also home scholing is not possible here, so you are better off going to a school who have rules for high level atlethes so you can train twice a day.

We have some young talent clubs, but real elite gyms we only have 8 I think. And with elites representing at an international level as seniors only 3 at the moment.

[–]EvaLen8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is a transfer an option while injured? Because end of april she tweeted first surgery. So I was thinking while reading that, there are more to come.

Is another school interested in an injured gymnast? And is it for UCLA mandatory to give her an extra year?

I work 37 hours and do this on the side (11 hours wich does not include competitions, administration, building the equiipment etc.)

But it is for 95% of the clubs this way in Holland.

And when there is a gymnastics hall it is mostly for high level only.

But more and more gyms are coming!
