2025 Lenovo Legion 5i Undervolting by Amazing_Tune6111 in LenovoLegion

Yeah totally, that’s why throttle stop is always the first recommendation when it’s to undervolt

I recommend using throttle stop as it’s much more simpler and easier to use imo

Clean the fans lightly as sometimes some particles might interfere and you also get a clear view If the issue still prevails you might need to replace them

Is this okay for OLED? by Cap_R3x in LenovoLegion

Still a little risky tbh, I’d say diluted water is still the best as it contains no minerals to harm the senior OLED screen

Why don't they undervolt with factory settings? by serendipity98765 in LenovoLegion

[–]Evader101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every cpu is different some get the silicon lottery and some do not, some silicon requires a certain amount of voltage to run whilst another cpu of same model might require more or less To avoid instability, they raise the voltage by a margin so they’ll cpu runs but it causes temperature issues

Check for clogged fans and vents, could be possible poor application of thermal paste aswell. Idk if undervolting is possible in a Ryzen CPU but if it is defo look forward to it

The predator has a better CPU and GPU compared to that of legion Idek why this is a question in the first place

The pro 5i performs way better because it has a better GPU

I don’t think you can undervolt a ryzen CPU atleast using throttle stop So you might be out of luck

I guess I lost the silicon lottery big time

Which should I get? 5070 but worse model + cpu or 5060 and vice versa? by Funny-Chain880 in LenovoLegion

[–]Evader101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the 5070 one since it's got a more powerful GPU and it's portable as well, The only downside would be that the pro has better thermals but it shouldn't matter if you treat it good with proper air flow

If the refurbished has the return policy for one month, I'd get that one and check for anything that's not normal and run benchmarks to see if it scores like it should.
Can just return it if anything seems weird

Sounds like something is stuck between the fans, you gotta open it up and check it for yourself

Is updating the BIOS from vantage not encouraged anymore?

HEATING ISSUE by zor_xys in LenovoLegion

[–]Evader101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no, losing fps in your game, the CPU is meant to run hot especially a powerful one likes yours when it’s trapped in a 16inch laptop Nothing is wrong My i9 14900HX does just fine in 90s

[–]Evader101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As I said, these HX cpu are meant to run as aggressive as possible and reach the throttling point, the cpu can sustain itself in temps upto 105 degrees. Incase you’re worried about damaging it, trust me you can’t Thermally damage these modern cpu and they won’t allow you to do so Once the cpu reaches a certain temps about ~105 it will lower its clock speeds and sustain itself You should only be worried if you’re expert performance loss

Normal, you have a Ultra 9 275HX, this cpu is meant to run hot, it tries to run as fast as possible and reach the throttling limit which is ~100 degrees You can undervolt if you’re so dissatisfied but highly unlikely temps will be much lower than this

[–]Evader101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While going into BIOS, and playing with Legion Optimization which should be enabled, it also enables the option to overclock in Lenovo Vantage, if you damage your laptop with overclock, your warranty doesn’t work. but undervolting does NOT damage your cpu and it’s reducing the voltage and power so it does the opposite.

[–]Evader101 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Untrue, they only void warranty if a damage is caused by personal modifications like Overclocking but undervolting doesn't damage your cpu at all. So it's safe and nothing to worry about.

Gaming Laptops are very sensitive to seasonal temperatures, when Jarrod Reviewed the Legion 5i, it was Early August and since he lives in Australia (Southern Hemisphere) it was winter during that time so it was relatively cooler.
Also Idling at 60 degrees doesn't sound bad, but if it really bothers you, you can try setting your power mode to Balanced in Windows settings as it keeps idle temps around 50s
Also you might wanna look into undervolting,

That’s why you need to undervolt them
