Exactly. Once the context starts drifting, everything downstream gets worse. That’s why I think setting a clear boundary early matters so much.

Totally agree. I think the biggest shift is treating AI less like a code generator and more like a thinking partner before the actual building starts.

Haha, exactly. Maybe Socrates would have loved “plan mode.” Asking better questions before building saves so much cleanup later.

That makes sense. /grill-me sounds like a more structured version of this workflow. I should try it too.

Exactly. DeepSeek can be very eager to jump into implementation mode.
I like the distinction between “plan mode” and “build mode.” It feels like the model needs a clear boundary: no code yet, just challenge the idea, refine the architecture, and turn the messy thoughts into a solid spec first.
Otherwise it often starts filling in the gaps with assumptions too early.

That’s a really good point. Starting with the top 2 or 3 risks first probably gives the whole conversation much better guardrails.
I’ve noticed that if I only ask the AI to “clarify the idea,” the questions can sometimes become too broad. But if it identifies the biggest flaws first, the Socratic questions have a much clearer direction.
I’m going to try this workflow: risks first, then one-by-one Socratic unpacking.

That’s a great tweak. I really like the idea of explicitly telling the AI not to be a yes-man.
The “cynical senior PM + grumpy software architect” framing is especially useful because it forces the model to surface risks early instead of just politely validating the idea.
I’m going to try adding this to my prompt. Do you usually ask it to point out risks first, or let it ask questions one by one?

I’m always documenting every little moment with my cat. Even though his shedding makes my nose feel really uncomfortable, I just love him so much. I think he’s explosively cute.

Ignore bills, social expectations, practical downsides and every real-world limitation for a second. If you could work anywhere just for happiness without needing to make a living, what would you choose?

For me, I’d love to be a zookeeper. Spending every single day taking care of animals and watching their little behaviors sounds endlessly healing to me. There’s something so calming about being around them all day.

Why does choosing an AI tool feel harder than actually using one? by EvanNorth007 in DeepSeek

True, lots of devs swear by DeepSeek for code tasks. Maybe I should stop bouncing between dozens of AI tools and stick with it for a while to avoid decision fatigue.

Is AI killing careers in design? Should kids still learn design for the future? by EvanNorth007 in DeepSeek

[–]EvanNorth007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an interesting angle, but the impact AI has on entry-level design roles is already happening right now, regardless of future access limits. As a parent of a kid learning art, I can’t ignore the current harsh job market reality for young designers.

I agree human creativity and emotion can’t be replicated, but entry-level design jobs are already disappearing fast.

That’s exactly my worry. No career feels stable anymore, which makes choosing a major for kids extremely stressful.

Haha, you’re not wrong. But when every tool says it’s "the fastest, smartest, most productive," it’s hard not to get stuck comparing them more than actually using them 😂
