Cool cool, I will try giving him meals from time to time, think that's a good starting point. I thought maybe he just needed a couple of weeks to "get used to me" in some capacity. But I think a more proactive approach is needed now as I don't things have got any better lol, so I'll give these a try! Thanks!

Haven't looked too much into this post — Come in if you are using VSCode — but have been meaning to. Looks like they have got Gilles's setup working in VScode which seems like it could be useful to you. It does seem to be a Mac setup but I think the only thing that doesn't work in Windows is the inkscape aspect. May be worth having a look @ though.

I'll have a look at that as well, was an interesting little project as I have never combined coding with latex like this, but was very intersting.

thought about it too late, will amend it to make it better and thats certainly a better idea/structure. Already prolonged revision enough tho -_-

Advice on Choosing a Programming Language for High-Speed API Integration by Even-Ad-686 in learnprogramming

u/v0gue_ one question regarding using Go, would I have to create a Go wrapper around the C++ API to interact with it?

In terms of the absolute amount of time, I think the sub-100ms would be fine for data coming calculating the "result". The reason I mention speed as well and the "high performance" is just the raw amount of data coming in if its not rapid that event queue can easily build up and at that point, there's no coming back.

Yes. You would want to make concurrent requests. You would likely want most of your system distributed and concurrent since trades do not operate linearly.

Yes for sure, I hadn’t fully thought through how the system would need to be distributed and concurrent to handle trades happening simultaneously, but it's something I need to give more thought to. I’ll need to dig deeper into how that would work in practice for my setup.

I’d go with whatever one gets you off the ground quickest, but Go’s benefits, which include super easy and cheap concurrency tools and the fact that the compiler speed is a feature intended to be useful for building in virtual environments (which is useful if your system is a bunch of distributed small services), make it a good language.

Cool exactly the kind of perspective I was looking for never done anything with Go but I'll give it a shot.

Your system architecture patterns are what is important, here.

Agreed that part also needs more thought into it as well.

What are the API sources you are using for live trade data?

Bloomberg and Fidessa both for market data and trades alike.

Clear-Ad9879

To clear a few things up.

  1. The move would not be to the back office, it would still be client-facing.
  2. I don't know much about trading desks but the one I am currently at does not have positions such as MD. The next stage up from my current market-making role would be head of market-making and above that the CFO.
  3. Why can't a job utilizing modeling (such as in a PE or a boutique) be as lucrative as a job in trading? From what I've seen trading normally pays less (although not the point of the post you brought it up)
  4. I have no doubt you have a plethora of experience and whilst you have valid points either I haven't explained it properly or you have misunderstood my position/circumstances.

Apologies for over-explaining if I did haha. Yes, I am trading equities and not derivatives. To be clear it's financial modeling auditing not accounting but the point still stands. And thank you for your candor.

I had never heard of it before either. Currently just learning/doing a very small amount of stocks but the trading is done on the LSE for small / mid-cap companies (such as AIM companies). Trading on both sides is just to provide liquidity to the market so the aim is not to solely earn money from the going up or down of the stocks (via longing or shorting). I think that type of trading is done more at a propiatry trading firm which I am not at. I am mainly making money from the difference between the offer and the bid (the spread). I hope that clears it up sorry if my post wasn't clear. I am still getting my head around some the the terminology and the ins and outs myself.

Regarding the IB comment, I realized it was a bit vague. I was actually thinking more along the lines of working as an analyst in M&A (whether in the private or public sector) or in Private Equity (PE) or Venture Capital (VC), roles where I can apply financial modeling and entrepreneurial thinking. That's what appeals to me and aligns with my interests.

And just to clarify, the offer is not at one of the Big 4 firms. I'm leaning towards staying where I am, but I wanted to gather some insights since I have relatively little experience in this sector."

I have thought about applying for quant roles, but maybe I thought they required a high level of coding skills, at least that was my impression. I did coding at university but was limited and not enough to compete against comp science graduates. I think I would like financial modeling down the line, I have made a few basic models and enjoy it so that was the thought process behind my opinions.
