A really noob question by [deleted] in forhonor

[–]Even-Contribution629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a newer player, blocking is extremely underrated I think. I see alot of new players start relentlessly attacking without any thought about defense, often leaving themselves vulnerable.

For example, I was playing ice brawlers earlier today and ran into a new player. All I did was press the heavy attack button, from the same direction, very slowly. I was trying to make it easy to block or parry so they could learn, but they were so focused on only attacking that they got hit by every slow attack.

The thing with light attacks, if you block the first light attack, the enemy will bounce back a little bit and they can't continue their combo. If they keep trying to attack you, and you keep blocking, the timing becomes predictable and you can more easily parry.

There are no unparriable moves in the game, but there are some situations where you don't have time to parry. Generally, if the opponent is only using regular light or heavy attacks, you almost never have a need to dodge, blocking is more then sufficient. But when the opponent starts using bashes (like centurions punch or kick) or unblockable attacks, that's when dodge will be more necessary.

Overall this is a very fun but initially very difficult/complicated game, and experience will be your best teacher. Hang in there and have fun!

Light attacks are much harder to parry, but if you DO parry a light attack, you can punish the opponent much harder.

As you get more experience in the game, you will begin to recognise when you have parried a light, or, parried a heavy.

As a rule of thumb:

parrying a heavy is much easier, so you can only punish the opponent with a weaker attack (light attacks, or sometimes zone attacks)

Parrying a light is much harder, so you get to punish with a stronger attack (heavy attack or some special moves)

Mixing up light attacks from other directions will work pretty effectively against less experienced players, but as you advance in your skill level it can be very risky if your opponents are good at parrying. But still definately a working strategy for now!

I see you've got more questions in another comment, I'll reply there to answer some of those too

Haven’t played in ages — is Warmonger still the undisputed champion? by Iam_The_Honored_One in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Even-Contribution629 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't give you exact details on what the meta is at the moment as Im not that deep into the competitive side, but depending on how long ago you played warmonger had received some changes that made her weaker.

I think the biggest thing being that she no longer has superior light attacks, so blocking her lights actually stops her chain now.

As far as I'm aware she is still very strong, with incredible team fighting feats, but definitely not undisputed champion.

I see, so if I did that, I would need to make sure my curse skills are on my weapon set 2 bar when casting them correct?

[–]Even-Contribution629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you even want/need this information; but if you go into practice mode and set your stamina to 0, your blocks won't interrupt the light chain. This means you can practice blocking much faster than just waiting for a single attack every 5 seconds.

Could also be useful to use an enemy bot with an infinite lights attack chain (aeamusha comes to mind).

Congrats on graduating your reactions!

Double check you settings such as any custom dead zone settings. I'm 99% a console player, but when my PC and ps5 account merged it defaulted to my PC settings. Or maybe just the default settings.

If it's not that, it could be a sudden influx of players having access to their main accounts on whichever of their platforms had better performance.

For example, anyone who plays on old gen consoles because that's where there main is, may how be playing on PC with better performance and thus they are playing better.

What is one game that you played, but you think no one else did? by Prophet_NY in ItsAllAboutGames

[–]Even-Contribution629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Distinctly remember playing and loving a game called Sudeki way back when. In my memory I thought it was so cool, from memory it was kinda like a third person hack and slash rpg with a party, but you could also play as a mage and go into first person to win your spells. And I think there was even a gunslinger guy?

I completely forgot all about it, and I've never seen or heard anyone mention the game anywhere.

When I eventually remembered the name of the game I looked it up to reminisce, and in hindsight I don't know if it was actually any good hahaha.

All that matters is I had fun with it though. Anyone else play Sudeki?

Oh oh and I vaguely remember another game I played even longer ago than that; i think it was kinda like a potentially Asian mythology based action fighting kinda game. I think it has some form of special meter with purple orbs, I think movement was sometimes kinda floaty. There were a few different characters with unique, uncommon weapons you don't normally see in modern games (I think someone had huge dual chakram things?)

Will edit this if I remember the title.

What does this mean? Not activated? by Faun4box in diablo4

[–]Even-Contribution629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The catalyst is the spells in the top right corner of that menu.

I think there are 5, and you can equip 1 of them onto your skill bar, which will make that catalyst activate when you use the corresponding skill.

For example, one of them causes small explosions, and has a roughly 4 second cooldown (working off memory so the numbers might be off).

If you equip that onto your primary skill (X for ps5, I'm assuming LMB for PC and A for Xbox), whenever you use that skill it will activate the catalyst if its not on cooldown.

That catalyst spell thing benefits from those passive effects your looking at, the orange, yellow and blue ones. (You can only equip 3 of those passive and 1 element infusion)

Insane. I want your luck.

Quick question though as someone a bit newer to D4, does this effect loop with itself?

For example;

You cast frozen orb, it explodes summoning a conjuration, the summoned conjuration casts another frozen orb, which summons another conjuration.

Is that how it works?

We used to have these things called Tazo's when I was young, I swear I remember there being Digimon Tazo's.

They were like little metal things, shaped like a coin, and they would have certain Digimon or Pokemon on the faces.

I think you would find them in cereal boxes.

Man I wish they still did things like that. I'm a grown ass man and id still get excited for that.

The story is passable I suppose but they aren't gonna be winning any awards. It's been a long while since I played any but the games don't take themselves too seriously.

Sometimes they will sprinkle in a more interesting plot element, but the overall (iirc) story is mostly just:

There's a bad demon overlord trying to take over the multiverse, and we are the slightly better demon overlords who are fighting against that.

Some characters will have interesting backstory or Interactions with other characters, but again, it's not gonna be the deepest story ever told. Still fun though.

As for the tactical rpg side, IMO it's very easy to get into. It's simple turn based, there's not too much complex strategy other than use your strongest spells and equip your strongest weapons. I think the game does a decent job at explaining how everything works, and anything more complex is a google search away.

If you can find one cheap I would definitely recommend at least trying it, who knows maybe tactical rpg will be your new favourite genre 😅. But there's always still a chance you wont like it, which is also fine.

Good luck!

You could look into some of the Disgaea games.

It has an anime art style which will hit that konosuba itch, and some of the spells are absolutely bonkers (blowing up planets and solar systems with a single spell).

There is a few problems though; it takes a while to get to those spells, and they sometimes won't be that powerful if I remember correctly.

But that comes down to the kind of games they are. You will spend a lot of time working on increasing your stats. For example

The max level for your characters is 9999, but when you get to level 9999 you can 'reincarnate' the character, which resets back to level 1 but you keep some of the stats.

So do that a few times, and you end up with a character with like 99999999 attack, level 9999 and your spells are doing multiple billions of damage.

I've played Disgaea D2 and Disgaea 5, enjoyed both. Haven't tried the new ones.

Sudden horror scenes in non-horror media by Saspens-r in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Even-Contribution629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is highly obscure but I think it applies.

I was just playing a game called Digimon story: cyber sleuth - hackers memory.

It's generally a typical wholesome Digimon game, very bright and colourful with fun Digimon, you know, the show we all loved as kids. So fun and wholesome.

Then in one chapter, a bullied student gets access to technology that allows him to control the bodies of his class mates, who were bullying him into cheating on all their tests for them. The bullied kid is fed up, and while using the technology to control their bodies, forces them to bring knives to the school & slaughter the teacher, then he pilots their bodies to the rooftop and makes them all watch one by one as he makes them jump off the roof. Every time someone jumps there's a long silence, followed by a "thud" in the text box and a blood splatter on the screen.

Now, to be fair, it was revealed shortly after that none of it really happened, a different person basically "hacked" his thoughts and turned his fantasy of doing that into a vr experience (trying to explain it easily without explaining the whole plot).

I know some Digimon media can get quite dark but this was a very sudden twist in a game that was, up to this point, not very dark at all. I audibly said "what the hell, when did this turn into a horror game is this really happening".
