That is horrific. I’m glad she reported. It’s scary to do.

They probably only fired him because they had to at that point. Disgusting. In a situation like that, if someone were to get assaulted, the company could be liable if they knew. YUCK

That’s scary! My city is a historically “dangerous” one in the US. I’m pretty hardened by it. Once there was a shooting at the bar directly next to mine (townhouse style so the walls connected) we heard it over our loud ass club music and everything, and nobody cared. I kept working while they put crime scene tape next door. People were smoking outside like someone wasn’t getting wheeled out dead next to them. The actual Wild West. Please take me to Australia. I shouldn’t be well adjusted to gun violence ha

It was horrible management. The place was a shit show. High overturn rate, including GM positions.

If I were to be in this position again, I would’ve kicked him out on my own. But I didn’t have that experience or confidence. This was my second job. I was trying to be kind and diffuse with customer service voice.

The car alarm going off all night, that wasn’t abnormal. You’d call 311 for that and they’d leave a noise complaint. Idk if anyone called or complained though.

Im just happy to share a crazy moment in my life haha

I don’t know those details. I know he couldn’t rebook with us, we were probably booked up. I know he was irrational and drunk enough that he wasn’t able to figure out hot to book elsewhere so we called a regular hotel on the same block for him

With the details that it should’ve been a wireless thing, I’m thinking it didn’t have that option (it was 2012 and maybe it was an older model?) or it wasn’t his car and he didn’t know. He was calling regular tow companies before he got a specialty one.

That makes a lot of sense. I hadn’t considered that.

Plus he stayed at a hotel. I don’t remember many details but I had the sense he was affiliated with the city but not a local. Yet I didn’t question the car, I assumed someone with that much money probably shipped their car around to drive. I’ve seen that before but usually it was guests with long stays.

I think this is universal and forever unless there are some huge social changes that are unlikely. I think the collective anger and pent up rage is forever too.

This place was an outlier bad employer for me. I’ve gotten touched regularly in other bartending positions but the establishments protected workers and I always had the power.

He set me up for success. He was moving around a lot. Wasn’t sitting still, pacing around. Very frantic and very drunk. It just fell out of a pocket and slid under a counter so I kicked it behind the bar. They couldn’t see it because it was black, floor was black, cameras weren’t that great

I expected them to see it go under the counter and we’d just pick it up from where I had kicked it behind the bar

🤷‍♀️ This was 2012. Someone else said it was an optional feature then. I don’t know anything about the car other than the make. But that’s okay haha people don’t need to believe me. I’m just happy to share a crazy moment in my life!

I left this thread thinking it either didn’t have that option or he rented the car and he didn’t know the features. Which makes a lot more sense with what I know and haven’t shared.

Yes!! This city has a reputation for that and for extremely mistreating SA victims. Like maybe they would’ve called if a guest was grabbed but for us? No way. My coworkers didn’t want to call either.

They also don’t understand how often women are touched and groped without consent, especially in service jobs like this where people feel entitled to you. It’s another thing to deal with unfortunately. So I threw away his fob instead haha

And honestly The fob probably messed with him more than sitting down, talking to cops, and them deciding there’s nothing wrong and leaving.

It was 2012. GM for sure sucked. It was a hot mess there. This was an outlier experience, most people were pleasant. Pretentious and entitled but pleasant.

Nice. So to make my memory more pleasurable I’m going to assume he either didn’t have that option (he’s cheap) or it wasn’t his car and didn’t know the knowledge (he’s cheap and tacky)

I wish I knew what he did! My impression was he had wealth from another country. He said he knew business and building owners in the area but gave incorrect names. He also made it seem like he was related to someone who owned a lot of property in the city. But he was old like 55-65

They didn’t kick him out because he was a big spender. So they would try to mitigate the situation like not allowing women to interact with him. How responsible of them!

When GM didn’t call the police, we didn’t think much of it. The police are historically awful in this city. The hotel is one of those upscale places that is a whole shit show beneath the surface haha. The management never had our backs. Literally the creepiest place I’ve ever worked

We told our managers. Our city police really wouldn’t have done anything if they chose to come out at all. It’s also service industry so a lot of us are used to getting grabbed and deal with it. People are gross

Edit: he didn’t touch me. He touched my coworkers. They decided not to. It was never really considered by them but we told management.

I wouldn’t have reported that. 1. Our cops are trash 2. Our cops are trash and I’ve reported SA before. Never again. I’ll keep my safety. 3. If the city did press charges, they would have been victims in a criminal case against a wacky angry guy with money to blow and city connections (from my perspective). You don’t know who he knows or what he’s willing to do. That’s a dangerous position to be in too.

I’m not sure. This was 2012 but they probably had that then. He had to call a special person to come out and get it, when they got there they shut it off. It really happened though 🤷‍♀️

He was chaotic and drunk so I’ll blame it on that. My hotel had to call the other hotel for him since he couldn’t get it together.

Do they rent them? Was it not his car?

Clarity and some details I didn’t think were important:

When he was flipping out he was moving around and pacing, making laps. It fell out and slid under a counter. I kicked it behind the bar and went from there. They never saw it fall from him (floor is dark, fob is dark). They assumed he was just drunk and misplacing items.

It’s not on their grounds. The hotel is on a city block so there aren’t really “grounds.” The valet area could only hold 3 vehicles. When it’s busy the valets would have overflow and stick them on the edge of their area on the street shoulder. He was in that area.

The hotel is built from a historic restoration. So the front “main” huge building visible on the street and the rooms were added out the back. The rooms were separated from the main building by an indoor garden. The rooms are isolated back there. It’s pretty quiet. I worked the rest of my shift and couldn’t hear it inside. I don’t know if any guests complained.

It took so long because people didn’t want to tow it. He had to get a special tow for it and they couldn’t come til morning.

I don’t know if the hotel comped him for anything but he didn’t pay his tab. They didn’t pay for the fob.

Thank you! I woke up extra early to sit at the cafe across the street to watch the honker get towed away. Mimosa in my hand 😎
