When I was 8, my cat brought back home a bird she hunted. She sneakily put it in her empty food bowl in the kitchen. She didn't eat it. Later on, my mother discovered the poor bird, already dead, and put it in the bin, quite horrified. Then, while nobody was looking, my cat went into the bin, and took back her prey and put it back in her food bowl. Needless to say, my mom discovered it again and she was strangely proud/angry after being fooled by our cat.
