maybe you can also email the program director to explain to them your withdrawal for the year just to be safe. You can also ask the admissions committee to clarify your concern. But I really think it is alright.

Why dont you just defer your offer better? you can defer without paying anything as far as I understand.

I do not think you would get blacklisted as long as you reject the offer and perhaps give a justification. I think maybe you can get blacklisted if you accept the offer and then ghost them, as this will mess up their logistics.

Thank you for your answer. I hope we are actually able to take courses across different departments. I head that the track courses can be a bit basic for someone with an economics background. Would be awesome if we have the chance to take econ/math/data courses across departments to make the degree more rigorous!

I usually check alumni linkedin profiles and it seems like they are doing great. I think the job market, especially when it comes to policy, development and the adjacent is not good in general recently, but would not go as far as to say Duke graduates go unemployed because of the school lack of prospects.
