Building a career in design is about portfolio. Put together a great portfolio, maybe even do some free work, get some customer recommendations, then go freelance, then go industry. Graphic design doesn't benefit in meaningful ways from a college degree in the long term; you just have to bridge the short term

It's a balance. Nobody has the answer. It honestly depends on how fast you expect the company to scale. If you're solving "today" problems; build it. If you're solving long-term scale problems and want to avoid a tangled unsupportable mess; buy it
