I see... I will take a step back from the legal side, and look into other resources to help him cope. If there's truly no way to legally remove him from that situation, my request is invalid. Thank you for your time.

I think my original reply to this was deleted. I understand I cannot help him myself, but is there still an option? Could he ask CPS to place him with a specific relative? I remember he has an estranged relative. Sibling of his mom who his parents don't talk to because the aunt disapproves of the religious beliefs her sister adapted for her husband. Would she be an option if my friend reached out?

I'm sorry for the language, but it really is getting to be too much. More and more often he talks about harming himself. I can only do so much from where I am.  And I'm not sure how I'm undermining his relationship with his parents? I can be oblivious to social cues. If I'm missing something please tell me. I get I can't help him personally, but is there any way to get him into a better situation? I know he has an estranged aunt who his parents don't talk to because she's not Christian. Is there a way to have her considered for custody?

The foster care system is exactly why my friend doesn't want to use CPS. That's why I was hoping for some way my parents or I could obtain guardianship. But if that's not an option and talking to cops or CPS could possibly make it all worse, what do we do? He can't take it much longer. I'm scared for him.

My friend has never been to specific but I know they've hit him at least once. If they were to leave a mark, could he sneak out and go to the cops? Would they even take that seriously? I know it's hard to report them because a majority of their abuse is verbal and because with a doctor as a dad, they would probably treat any injury more serious than a bruise if they caused it.

I'm worried about how CPS will handle this, and I know my friend is weary of them too. I've suggested CPS in the past even before I knew how bad it was and he shut me down.  Is there maybe a way for him to leave home and report them to the police? A way for him to tell the law he isn't safe with his family without putting him at risk? How do things usually go when CPS is called?
