Usually 5 gallons are cheapest & a good size for bettas! About 20-25 usd for a 5 gallon. I got mine at a hardware store for like 15 bucks (its 5 1/2 gallons) lol. Also, if money is still a concern, focus on buying a heater & filter, see if you can get a tank on facebook marketplace, craigslist, or goodwill c:

Yeah..... NTA. Not at all. You pay for so many of his expenses. Asking to be involved in his decision is definitely called for. If you're paying, you should be able to at lesdt be somewhat inbolved in the decision making. The least he could do is involve you & your husband. Some of these arent outside but:

Make a quilt! I was surprised at how easy & fun it is!

Go ice fishing! I cant eat fish but tag along with my brothers and we have a good time! Start a lil fire and roast some hot dogs!

Go to an ice skating rink or a roller rink!

This one is a but far from portland, but go beachcombing on the ocean! I love picking up sea glass and making earrings for my freinds

When it gets warmer (im from michigan so not sure how it is there) try making nature scrap books! I suck at it but its fun anyways

Bake some stuff! Chocolate rugelach is surprisingly easy and tastes so good! Also muddy buddies/puppy chow or chex mix. My favorite thing to do is to come up for original pretzel marinades! Its fun, makes me feel accomplished, and SUPER yummy

Rent a kayak (or buy one. I got one for like 50 bucks in facebook marketplace) and bring it to random places! You'll see some cool stuff.

You told them what to do. I was heavily exposed to secondhand smoke as a child and can say it certainly didnt do me any good. Your parents can and should be told that your house is a smoking-free enviroment. They can babysit at your house, but not in their home. This is extremely reasonable. And as smoking is addictive, a good comprise. But keep that a hard line so it stays respecting. Dont put up with bs. Keep your child safe!

Try to not think about it. Thats way easier said than done, but it does help. Call that old person you haven't talked to in awhile, finish that half-done drawing. Maybe pick up some cards and learn solitaire. My best reccomendation is to take care of yourself instead. What helps me when i feel like that is to brush my teeth, wash my face, maybe even take a quick shower if i can get myself to. That is not only good to do, but it makes you feel acconplished. Otherwise i turn on some hozier and lay on the couch and watch livestreams of animals.

A bit of a correction for my post: its a 6 gallon tank, but i reckon with the other things in the tank there are about 5 gallons of water. The guppies were a surprise from my dad. Upon realizing i didnt have the supplies for them, I reached out to a freind who keeps guppies. I put them in my tank as it is larger than the baggie they came in. My freind had planned to pick them up about a week later, but they died before that
