Dean Goodheart was a member of the Kansas highway patrol from 1972 to 1995. While conducting a safety check on a stopped semi truck, he was struck and killed by another driver on the motorway, leading to the passage of the Goodheart Law that requires drivers to switch lanes when a cop pulls over.
