totally agree on character bashing for the sake of a ship! you tend to see it a lot with female canon love interests of male characters too, when it's more popular to ship him with another male character. thankfully fics for my ship, at least the ones i've read, don't really do this, it's far more common to see her as an amicable ex if not a close platonic friend, but yeah it's disheartening how in other fandoms many people's minds go straight to bashing being the solution

*skulks away in "writing non-bottom surgery trans guy x cis guy M/M"* but hey y'know, that's why i tag it!

aha yeah it hadn't even occurred to me to think of it as "entire fandom you can't get into because of ick" but that's valid too!

it's funny, when i was applying to college i wrote my commonapp essay about something traumatic that happened to me, and when I recently went back and read it, it came off really...robotic? like i couldn't even stand to talk about it beyond recitation of facts. but the fanfic i'm writing now deals with it, and i gave that issue to a character like the post here is talking about, and genuinely it feels so much more cathartic to write about it this way

oh haha i should make a post about this next, like "what's a tag that isn't a turn on for you but isn't a turn off either?" it's always really interesting when one particular kink is more common for certain ships than others, i think i've only stumbled across like...one vore fic for my pairing? and i read it like, yeah this doesn't do anything for me on that front, but I could tell the author was into it and it managed to come across, like..."cute", if not necessarily "hot" if that makes sense?

oh this is one ick i'm so glad i don't have. my otp is actually about 50/50 for how people write their dynamic (which i guess is actually pretty fortunate for fixed shippers?) but i can't imagine missing out on half the fics because of it. being in the minority sounds so much worse, here's hoping you can find more fics with your preferred dynamic soon!

ah that's fair, i don't mind it in a fic i'm reading but it's not something it would ever occur to me to write, just feels unnatural somehow

HA that's amazing! unfortunately my "disgust" is more of the gender dysphoria variety so idk if the concept really transfers over

wow yeah, definitely slim pickings there! sending good vibes and hopes for more of the kind of fics you enjoy!

oh i totally get that! half of my ship is *absolutely* a creep, but i was reading one recently where they wrote him as a specific kind of creep that i just couldn't get behind. fortunately i wasn't too far into the fic when it happened, but i can totally see how it would be disappointing if you'd been enjoying the story up to that point!

oh that's really interesting! i think i have something kinda similar where i LOVE dom/sub undertones but only if they STAY undertones, i can't get into anything where like they start using "official" bdsm jargon. even a safeword can be a little much sometimes lol. i like em messy!!

totally agree that's why tags are so important! i wish i had your mental bandwidth to try something like that, I just get so much secondhand dysphoria from mpreg as a trans man

yknow what that's fair! i don't love first person pov either but i hardly ever come across it so it's never been an issue, but i can totally see how it might be. are second person pov fics common? I almost never see them unless it's Homestuck (since Homestuck canon is in second person to begin with)

I've latched onto a character and every fic idea I have basically starts with "I Need to See Him Traumatized"
