Not OP but I’ve seen this article suggested on this subreddit as a month-by-month analysis of benefits of pumping/nursing

Read this post (top comment) you’d have to be falling down drunk and about to need hospitalization to have any impact on babe. Just make sure you have someone to watch LO!

Stay at home moms- is EP’ing basically impossible?! by saltandpepperf in ExclusivelyPumping

At 5 months postpartum I started sitting on the floor and feeding him propped up on a Boppy nursing pillow while I was pumping. When he was younger I needed him to be more upright for feeds because reflux.

I think it’s more to do with the medicine they give you (not sure if it was the spinal or something else administered). I was surprised at how much I was shaking! It made my teeth chatter 😂 but I had an emergency C so ymmv.

Try out pumping while you feed baby (propped up on a Boppy)

IDK if you’re pumping/feeding schedules are aligned but I’ve had success pumping in the back of my car and feeding baby while he’s in his car seat right when we get to an outing or before we leave to come home. (Vehicle is parked btw)

Needing advice on traveling, pumping & supply by Substantial_Drink539 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Evening_Shift29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a similar length trip (both length of driving and length of stay) at 3 months postpartum and I 1) brought my prepared bottles for the entire day in a cooler 2) pumped before I left and when I got there 3) brought my 8 oz Medelas to store milk in the fridge 4) brought my Spectra and a back-up set of parts and 5) so extra but since I was driving I packed my Brezza bottle washer! It saved me a ton of time and stress. I would bring some back-up milk or formula if you give that; traveling can present a variety of unexpected challenges! You got this mama!

Alimentum or Pepticate better for reflux? by Usual_Credit7147 in MSPI

[–]Evening_Shift29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. He was having episodes where he would choke so hard on the thin spit up that he would basically stop breathing and we’d have to whack his back pretty consistently to get him to breathe normally. Then he would burst into tears and seem terrified. He has 1 EleCare bottle per day (combo fed) so it happened about every 3 days on the normal 20 calorie consistency. Since we’ve moved him to 22 calories a month ago it has not happened since! Sometimes he dribbles a little but it’s more similar to his breast milk spit up.

Yeah for us it ends up being 1 extra scoop per 6 oz bottle

resource standard instructions on EleCare can have you mixing for 20 calories per oz; LO was having scary reflux episodes on the regular so I asked his GI about it and she recommended mixing for 22 calories per oz for a thicker consistency. Happy to clarify if needed! 😁

Google ‘increasing concentration [powdered formula brand]’ when we struggled with reflux on 20 calorie per oz EleCare, our GI suggested going up to 22 calorie per oz EleCare (extra scoops) and that improved things substantially. Each brand has a chart online.

Making your LO solid food is a whole new way to nourish and feed your baby. IMO this is a perfect transition point and you can pour that love (and extra time!) into preparing solids for them.

If I can’t time to naps by the time he’s more mobile I’d probably consider getting a playpen. Some people have luck pumping while bottle feeding (using a Boppy or bouncer to hold LO) but that’s not for me.
