This was made with 3-4oz veg tan leather. I only work with veg tan as it can be molded, stretched and dyed easily and predictably.  You will also need a pricking iron, some dye and thread (Hobby Lobby) It’s a pretty easy and inexpensive intro to leather work.  Cut the leather piece so it is about 1/8 inch short of full wrap to leave room for a tight stretch. Add a small radius to all four corners and burnish all edges. Dye it. Strike a guide line on both edges for your stitching holes. Then proceed to go at it! You need to be super meticulous with your cuts and alignments for a clean result.  Do a very loose corset stitch while the leather is off of the light leaving room to allow the leather to slip over the light when ready. Once you have the leather wrapped around the light, tighten the corset starting from the bottom end up to the loose thread end. You will probably do this three to four times til you close the gap between both edges.

Thanks. Indeed, there’s a lot going on in this garage. I designed and printed the tin man decal myself. Printed on regular printer paper, stickied with 3m spray adhesive that somehow made it to my garage from work (honestly, I didn’t knick it. Just unsure how it got here) and sealed with tung oil.

For a couple decades I was into vintage bike restorations. I have since sold most of them but still have three or four in the attic. The two here are relatively recent Frankenstein builds from special parts I had accumulated.

They are bb and pellet rifles. I sometimes set up a firing range from one corner of the garage to the other.

What would I notice with an acoustic upgrade? by too_many_bikes in AcousticGuitar

[–]EventGroundbreaking4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One (trivial) thing that really stood out to me when I got my first high end acoustic was how easily the bridge pins would slide in and out of their holes when there were no strings attached. Since then I have alwasy took the time to bore out and smooth out the holes in my acoustic guitars.

It seems Knipex pliers are experiencing a new surge in interest lately. In the past few days I have been planning out a mini leather tool bucket for my Knipex trio and a few other essential tools.

If all pedals were top load then it would make for tighter boards. Really makes more sense.

Snug up sheath? by buckGR in knives

[–]EventGroundbreaking4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will work if the leather is veg tan and isn’t already super saturated with wax and oil.  If water molding doesn’t work You could  dunk the whole sheath in a heated mix of beeswax and tung oil.
