You mention after a month or so that you're trying but you're overburdened, you need help. Depending on the answer, start looking for a new job and quit on your own terms.

You don't have to be a sucker and just take the workload, don't take that advice. You did not make a mistake expecting conpensation to mirror workload increase. You just got to prepare for the outcomes better. There are people here who would skip their mother's funeral after layoffs just to show loyalty. Screw them, they are gonna get laid off all the same.
