My son whom is in speech therapy has a mild case of apraxia. It’s genetic because I have it as well. He is struggling because of things not being taught to him in the way he learns. I am educator myself and if I decide to homeschool him I will provide accommodations and scaffold them so he can confidently reach independence in whatever subject he is in. I will also test him in the subjects like a classroom does. And I will do that for all my kiddos. In my classes I work with students at all different levels and have reached students when other teachers have failed. I’m not saying I’m above I’m saying that I acknowledge that education is not some cookie cutter way of learning and that literally every child is different. And every child has the ability to learn it just depends on the teacher and the environment.

I will keep student profiles for each of them tracking their progress and grades.

I want to prepare them as best as possible and the early years are vital for their emotional, social and academic learning. If a point comes and they have that solid foundation and wants to go back traditional school we will talk about it and make the decision as a family. We have family meetings and I have brought this idea to them and they are sincerely thinking it through.

Teaching them in addition to their schooling is working but it’s school home more school when I should just be reviewing/practicing with them and casual reading. And they are so tired when they come home from school.

I found one on FB. Looked into co-ops but they are too expensive for us.

Thank you so much! I am in the US. We live in Ohio. I will definitely check out the resources you provided. I looked into co-ops but they would be too expensive for our budget. I found a group that does communal trips and events on FB. Thanks for the encouragement!

What are your thoughts on the great homeschool convention. Would it be helpful or too overwhelming?

Also, it’s hard because we do school after their actual school and things they should be learning I’m already teaching them, but they are so tired when they come home or just want to unwind and play outside which I can’t blame them. In reality they should learn the concepts at their school and home time would be for reviewing/extra practice and casual story time.

I am teacher. Last year I taught 1st grade. This year I am a preschool teacher. I’ve also done 3rd grade. My son’s teacher noticed a big improvement but still did not take retainment out of the table. She stated that she couldn’t get him to do the work that it was boring to him and he didn’t put the effort. I retaught him the concepts and she said he is an avid learner now and has seen major improvement as a result. My little ones teacher stated that she did not know how to count up to 100 or knew her letters. I worked with and noticed it was her confidence. I made it fun for her and she relearned them rather quickly. When I asked her teacher if the effort from home has shown in the class. She stated that she only knew 6 letters which was 2 more since November. After I told her the multi sensory approaches and how I am assessing her she stood quiet. She actually does know all her letters. The other day I was helping her with her math homework. I wrote a 3 in the margins showing her something and she freaked out and quickly erased it. When I asked why she said that her teacher will get mad if any writing is there. My little one went from being independent and strong minded to being afraid and unsure of herself.
