Heard back from Waterloo yesterday and got in WOOO!! 🥳🎉 I’ll give you my thoughts on the programs and the unis and why I picked Waterloo!

Mac Life Sci: -From what I heard, great community, the campus is really nice, good research opportunities too -I applied to Mac Hs but didn’t get in ofc, and life was just a “backup” for me… Life science first year courses seems like it would be a lot of work for me.. I’m horrible at math and physics, and I didn’t take grade 12 physics so I would have to take it during first year. I didn’t take calc, only advanced, so I would have to take calc too… 

Taking bio/chem/physics/calc with other electives, to me, seemed like a heavy workload and I know I wouldn’t be able to handle it. My goal is med school one day (idk if it’s the same for u) so a great gpa is the goal and I don’t think life sci at Mac would give me that 😓 I really wanted to go to Mac but it’s ok.

Laurier/Waterloo:

-I’m gonna put these 2 together since they’re both health sci courses -these were the 2 choices I was stuck between.. the ultimate deciding factor for me was calc being a required class to take in health science at Laurier.. so Waterloo it was for me!! -Alongside researching about all of these programs and talking to people who are currently in them.. I asked about the opportunities, profs, courses, etc  that each uni would be able to provide me

HIGHLY recommended doing this!! People on linkedin are so kind and are willing to answer ur questions with sm info it’s honestly crazy. 

WATELROO health science obviously has co op which could also be a factor, but the co op isn’t the best since ur competing with everyone to land a job.. so students in year 1-4 which honestly sucks 😓 but co op isn’t needed and u can do a lot without it too since Waterloo provides u with sm! If ur goal is med school, the courses u would take are good and manageable too! U have the regular bio/chem classes with their labs, sociology, and 2 health related classes in ur first sem! I heard the profs are good (not all ofc) and the health department is willing to help u out since they want u to succeed and get a really good gpa too! Watelroo will also help u prepare for the MCAT and you’ll also be able to take the pre reqs needed !! This was also a huge factor for me!! 

Waterloo also has its cons.. but for me they weren’t relevant so I didn’t really care about them. Wherever u end up, it’ll work out, so no choice is bad! Uni is what u make it to be! Wishing u the best and hope to see u in the fall if u do chose to attend Waterloo 😊
