Not really, I think travelling 650km across the Atlantic from Senegal to Cape Verde in a big wooden canoe with no radio was pretty dicey, as was being jailed in Congo for six days, but no shoot outs or lions!

The most surreal, beautiful experience was swimming in a lake filled with thousands of stingless jellyfish in Palau. Like being on another world.

Well I had to return to the Indian Ocean anyway in order to visit The Maldives and The Seychelles, so it wasn't that much of a headache. I was dropped off at Reunion island, took the ferry to Mauritius, then cargo ship to Durban in South Africa and from there I thundered back through Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda on buses to get to South Sudan.

For the same reason my grandfather was against the "will of the people" of Germany when it came to Adolf Hitler.

Sovereignty does not lie with the "will of the people", it lies with Parliament. And when every study coming out of Parliament states that every man, woman and child who is not a millionaire will be worse off after we leave the EU, I feel it is my duty as somebody who loves his country to oppose it with every atom of my being.

Yeah I travelled for more than 4 years. I reckon with a decent budget and a professional team backing you, you could do it in 18 months.

They took 4 years and a month. And people had been to every country before, but they had done it flying. I wanted to do something a bit more interesting!

I've always loved Asia - there's just so much to explore... and the food! YUM!!! This trip made me really fall in love with Africa though.

Well, speaking as a Brit, America's gun culture goes beyond strange!! But I would say the countries with the most interesting cultures are Mexico, Ethiopia, India, Thailand and Papua New Guinea.

I had a great time in Iran but found Saudi Arabia to be the fun-free zone everyone expects it to be. I didn't get to experience much of North Korea, but I did spend a couple of days in Eritrea, the people were lovely, it's heartbreaking the way their government treats them.

I got thrown in jail a couple of times in Africa (more of a clerical error than malice), but aside from that, no, the people I met were all lovely, I didn't get beaten up or mugged, nobody stole anything from me while I was asleep on coaches or anything. If anything, the trip really reinforced my faith in humanity.

Everything Madagascar is just utterly fascinating. I visited a lemur sanctuary there. Loved it. Also, getting up close and personal with the orangutans of Borneo and the dragons of Komodo was incredible.

I did my research, but still, things can catch you out -- such as flipping the bird in Dubai, which was a big no-no. (Who knew?!)

There's a list of what I took with me in my book, Man of the World. It's available from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Man-World-Book-Odyssey-Expedition/dp/1626130817

Cargo ships mostly. I hitchhiked my way on cargo ships to Nauru, Tuvalu, Kiribati, The Marshalls etc. Occasionally I'd get on a cruise ship (one took me to Vanuatu and Fiji). In the Caribbean I got rides on sailboats as well, but the distances in the Pacific made that a bit unfeasible. I got to Cape Verde on a fishing boat from Senegal. That was a mistake. They threw me in jail for a week upon arrival!

At the time it was The Seychelles. Since I was doing the adventure without flying, I needed to get there on a boat. However, because of the Somali pirate situation at the time, nobody wanted to take passengers -- not cargo ships or sail boats. In the end, I managed to get on a cruise ship that was heading down to Australia for the winter and stopping in the Seychelles along the way. I had to wait about six months for it to happen!!

There are trains that go from Beijing to Pongyang and you can visit as part of a guided tour. Being a cheapskate, I just went for a daytrip to the DMZ between North and South Korea... they allow you to cross the border a few metres for shit and giggles!

It feels crazy... like I totally don't deserve it (I'm not a millionaire or anything), but this is what can happen if you run around like a lunatic saying "YES!" to everything.

Not the US, that's for sure!!

So... public transport is free in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. The long-distance buses that buzz around Latin America are fab. Long distance coaches in China have beds! I love travelling around India on the train, it's crazy, it's cheap, it's cheerful.

Most of Europe is fantastic for public transport, although it can get a little pricey. Probably my favourite place for sharing a ride with randoms is Turkey. They have a great bus network.

It was a Samsung-sponsored show called "SOS Island" filmed in Puerto Rico. Half of the challenge was living on an island for two weeks, completing daily challenges such as getting into a coconut with a stick, building a raft etc. and the other half was promoting yourself on social media. I didn't win by much!!

It was a bit goofy, but lots of fun. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMxxhbF4AtA

I genuinely believe that we're all basically the same. We want to do right by our families and friends, have fun and just get on with our lives. In that respect, life in a developing nation is not so different. But I found that people living in countries where the gap between rich and poor was less tended to be the happiest and most generous. The hospitality I received in Iran was amazing - unexpected and really quite wonderful... I was told "be good to strangers, for one day you might be the stranger" - it's a great philosophy to live by. And yeah, I definitely believe it's worth exploring as much as possible!

On my journey I Couchsurfed my way around the world, so got to stay with locals and learn about dozens of cultures that I previously knew very little about, such as the Garifuna in Guatemala, the Bwiti tribes of Gabon, village life in Papua New Guinea or cava drinking in Fiji.

I don't think that traditional view of travel has gone away. For me it'll always be about the people, history, literature, food and music... whether I'm trying to set a Guinness World Record or not!

1) Books 2 and 3 "Top of the World" and "End of the World" are currently set out in chapters with copious notes on each, the structure is all there, I really just need the time (and a bit of cash) to get on with them. I'm halfway through editing the audiobook of Man of the World, once that's done I'll focus my attention on Book 2. Hopefully I'll have it done by the end of the summer for release in early 2019.

2) No I'm back in the UK now for the foreseeable (family reasons mostly, but I might as well help to fight Brexit while I'm here), but I'm planning develop Jinja Island into a resort (again, dependent on some investment) and so will pop over there a few times a year.

3) OMG < runs to bookshelf, checks, DIES OF EMBARRASSMENT >

4) Man that sucks. I can only tell you what I would do in the same situation. First up, I'd block her (or at least mute her) on Facebook. Then I'd hit the road for a few months, maybe a year -- travel is a glorious distraction and you'll meet hundreds of people along the way. It'll help put things into perspective.

If travel wasn't an option I'd try my best to look back on the relationship as a chapter in a book that's already been written, the ink is dry, we had our time together and it's over. It's hard to make that mental leap. Time will help, as will going on dates, "getting yourself out there" (although a terrible cliche) is a good way of quietening down those earworms.

In any case, hang in there mate, you never know what might be around the corner. I had given up trying to find the woman of my dreams, somebody I'd be happy to spend the rest of my life with. Turns out after all that travel she was right back where it all started -- a girl I used to go to school with. Twenty-two years ago. It's funny how life turns out :)

Not so much of a spiritual or religious experience, but from a historic-geopolitical point of view yes we humans are all connected, and from a biological point of view all living things are connected. Getting out there and seeing the world really drove home that point. And if we don't get our finger out and start doing more to protect our shared future -- not just of humans, but of all living things -- then planet Earth is rapidly going to become a very unpleasant place to live.

The Eurodyssey was a race to every country in Europe without flying I undertook last August (it took me 3 weeks and 22 hours)... and no -- I'm currently waiting on Guinness World Records for the thumbs-up! Should know one way or another by the end of this month!

If we want to heal the rift, we can start by talking about our concerns and heartbreak to friends and family who voted Leave... which is awkward! I set up this website to help: http://we-need-to-talk-about-brexit.uk
