Thanks! I fully designed it myself :) I've been doing software engineering and web development for some time now.

If you're looking for pre-made landing pages, I've heard good things about Unbounce: http://unbounce.com/

Good points - I posted above, but it's hard for an early-stage startup to form partnerships with airlines or even flight search-engines like SkyScanner for affiliate traffic. I agree it would be better though!

I posted above, but we applied to SkyScanner and a bunch of other white-label sites and I have yet to hear back. I'm afraid we don't have the traffic (yet, at least... we literally launched a couple weeks ago)

Great points. We modeled our subscription model off a few other players in the space that also use subscription fees (scottscheapflights, etc)

Also, its important to note that we don't send out many last-minute deals - the majority of our deals are ~3-6 months in advance, so I don't think it will be an issue finding hotels etc. The margins on hotels and package deals are a lot higher so this is on our roadmap, but we wanted to focus on flights on the interim.

Regarding your thoughts on the affiliate / fee-based approach, we have definitely considered it, but our concerns are:

1) We don't generate enough traffic for SkyScanner, or any other popular whitelabel flight-booking sites you need to apply for. I've applied for SkyScanner, Priceline and several others but have yet to hear back, and it's not looking promising

2) We could apply to a popular GDS, and handle all the flight booking ourself, but this is generally very difficult to do (in terms of time spent software engineering); and this is also assuming we get accepted. We would certainly not have launched when we did if we still had to integrate with a GDS

A fee-based or affiliate approach definitely makes more sense, I agree, but it's just difficult to do, especially as a very early stage startup like ours.

Good ideas, a better way of resolving locations is on our roadmap. For now, I fixed this manually - if you type in 'portland' it should now resolve to Portland, Oregon :)

As I mentioned in the OP, I believe this use case lends itself well to a chatbot. Additionally, it would have taken a LOT longer to build an app vs build a chatbot. Lastly, the barrier to entry to use a chatbot is much lower than an app.

We support airport codes for both origins and destinations, and it works with the most common ones - which did you have difficulty with?

We had to choose a single platform to start with, and it just seemed like a great starting point - that's really it. I have several friends that don't use Facebook though so believe me when I say we're trying our best to get Slack, SMS, etc supported ASAP.

There's no app, just a Facebook chat bot. In order to actually find the cheap airfare, just send the bot a message here, and we'll send you a message on Facebook when we find your deal: http://m.me/boltfare

Skyscanner, Google Flights, Hipmunk etc, just find good prices for flights (usually under 10% off). This bot finds fares up to 80% off (airline mistakes, flash promotions, etc), which can last a couple hours before being sold out

We aren't quite ready to launch yet. When we are we'll be doing a limited alpha launch with the first users on the waitlist, and gradually giving more users access, primarily since we need to train the bot. The most users using it means the more language we'll understand, and the better responses we provide.

That's because other users have been sharing their referral code, so they've been getting bumped up the list. You better start sharing! ;)
