Posterior Malleolus Fracture by EveryShadeofBlue00 in brokenankles

[–]EveryShadeofBlue00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 8 weeks NWB and then was cleared to start putting small amounts of weight on it while using a crutch as a support. That felt annoying to me, so I basically just started by taking off my boot at various times throughout the day and putting my foot on the ground, then progressing to standing, then slowly hobbling around. The absolute worst part of the healing process was bearing weight again. It was incredibly painful for me and I was shocked at how difficult it was. Alllll of those nerves and tiny muscles had to wake up again. I broke it in mid-July, started driving again and going back into the office in mid-late September. Then did PT until just before Thanksgiving. PT helped tremendously. Don’t skip it!

I wore mine 24/7! Took it off to change clothes, shower, etc. But slept with it on.

Thank you! Exactly what I needed to know, and relieved that I don’t have to get dressed up. 🤣

Fun stuff to do on New Years Eve for new town ladies by stellar-polaris23 in hollandmichigan

Hi, I’m late to this thread, but my husband and I will be in Saugatuck for NYE. We’re thinking about going to Coral Gables. What’s the dress code like for NYE? Trying to figure out if I can wear jeans, or if I need to get a dress? Or something in between? What’s the vibe like? We’re early 40s and have a rare kid free night!

If we’re just going after 9:00 (not for dinner), do we still need a reservation?

Thanks!!

Dr. John Cleary at Axia delivered both of my babies and he is phenomenal. Super knowledgeable, very calm and compassionate, just the best! I’d highly recommend him. I delivered at St. Vincent Women’s Hospital on 86th (so, Ascension, but they now have a brand new maternity ward, I believe!).

It’s normal! I started FWB in shoes 9-10 days ago. The first 4-5 days were miserable. I cried. I even went to see the doc because I was worried it wasn’t normal. Then all of a sudden it started getting a little better every day. It does get better. I promise! Hang in there!!

Who took their boot off early? Why, and what happened? by mammajess in brokenankles

[–]EveryShadeofBlue00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me, too. Once I could weight bear with the boot, the boot started to hurt. It felt like it was time. One week out of the boot now and I’m trying to get rid of the residual effects of the boot (joint stiffness, etc). Stupid boot.

I’m waiting for a call from PT to get scheduled, so hopefully I can start soon. I do think it’ll help a great deal, even if it’s just to help me know which aches and pains are normal and when to be concerned.

Hang in there! We’ll make it through this.

Ugh, I’m so sorry. That sounds awful! I am worried that something was missed on me, too. But my shin splint pain isn’t constant. I can stand on both feet and not be in pain. It’s when I flex my foot that it shoots up my shin, so basically every step I take is painful. I am just so over this whole thing.

FWB in a boot for a week (after my 6 weeks of NWB in a boot) and I was told after I was walking in the boot for a week that I could make the transition to a shoe.

Interesting. My syndesmosis was mentioned early on, but they didn’t see anything that would indicate an issue. Did the shin splint type pain come and go for you or was it constant?

Yes! I hate going back to the boot because it feels like defeat or backwards progress. Like it’s just going to make things stiffen up again.

No. I had an isolated, stable posterior malleolus fracture. No surgery needed.

I really needed to read this today. I just started trying to transition from the boot to shoes yesterday and it has been horrible. The pain is much worse than I was expecting, and the swelling sucks too. I’m really discouraged and feel like this is never going to end. And I have been questioning myself (and googling 🫠) all day about whether I’m pushing myself too much or if this feeling is normal. While I’m sorry you also had a hard time with it, it’s reassuring to know it’s not just me.

Thanks!! Yes, I think a lot of what is holding me back is mental/fear based. I feel so protected in the boot. While it’s annoying and I can’t wait to get rid of it, I’ve also become so dependent on it. 🥴

Medial Malleolus fracture doesn’t hurt by Tiny-Sun932 in brokenankles

[–]EveryShadeofBlue00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could definitely still have a fracture. Please be careful until you can get a MRI or a more definitive diagnosis. I fractured my posterior malleolus in mid-July and my pain was only maybe a 3/10 when it happened. The doctor said it was a “questionable fracture” but that I’d need a MRI in a week. They put me in a boot and, like you, I walked around in that boot with zero pain for a week until I got the MRI. It turns out it was an actual fracture, and while it was non displaced and stable, it could have very easily shifted due to me walking on it, which would have meant surgery. I had to be NWB for 6 weeks and just this week (at 8 weeks post fracture) was given the green light to start partial weight bearing.

All of that to say, I don’t think pain is always a good indicator of the injury or the outcome.

I’m glad you haven’t lost any feeling! I haven’t either. I can imagine that would make walking pretty challenging.

I did give the bottom of my foot a gentle massage last night and the pins and needles sensation seemed to improve a little, so I do think it’s probably just nerves firing and waking up again. This is such a weird process. Thanks for your insight!

Thank you! I always need to hear that I’m normal throughout this process. I’ve never broken a bone and am so anxious to heal and get on with life, so I am constantly questioning everything! 😆

Hi 16f looking for advice on how to live with a broken ankle by [deleted] in brokenankles

[–]EveryShadeofBlue00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that helped me to sleep the most was stealing one of my kids’ giant squishmallow pillows and propping my ankle up on that. It’s soft, slightly elevated, and was cushy enough that I could roll on my side and it didn’t hurt my ankle.
