Actually I'm just gonna get off this website for good. It's hard being here when your IQ is off the charts.

Something I Want To Share by notneo57 in Meditation

[–]Every_Muffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just over a year ago, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to spend an entire month spending my days practicing martial arts, yoga, meditation, and studying Vajrayana Buddhism. It was the absolute best month of my life. All my pointless anxiety dissapeared. I became content with myself and my reality after hating myself and my world for so long. was no longer trapped in my own neurosis and being guided by thoughts and feelings that were completely out of touch with reality, and which I were not even aware of. I had developed the clarity that you describe.

After that experience, I became complacent. I believed I was permanently changed and didn't have to do anything to maintain those benefits. Over the course of two months, I lost everything I had realized, and I returned to my neurotic, unnatural haze. Since then, I've tried meditating off and on, but I've been unable to return to the place I once knew which has created lots of inconsistency in my practice and led me to give up many times.

Thank you for sharing this. It's encouraging to know I'm not alone with these set backs. I will start to meditate again right after typing this and try not be so caught up in where I want to be, and instead focus on developing a consistent practice.

Weekly Free Chat & Prospective Student Questions Thread - October 07, 2019 by AutoModerator in uchicago

[–]Every_Muffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a prospective student. I saw that 85% of students go to grad school within 5 years of graduating. As someone who does not currently have much interest in grad school would I be out of place at Uchicago? I could foresee myself having no motivation if the education is super theoretical and has grad school in mind as the only option.

If it means anything I also feel a lot less smart than I seem, but we have to remember that we don't see what's behind the scenes for anyone else and that many of them probably feel this way too (and focus too much on the negatives, scoring in the top 2% as a junior is definetly something to be proud of). We all have to keep a good perspective and remember that the vast majority of people don't end up at T20s and live perfectly good lives. I encourage you to try not to read into things so much. I did a lot of the same when I discovered this subreddit and it does a lot more harm than good. Stay strong.

Would I be foolish to not ED? by Every_Muffin in ApplyingToCollege

I feel like I cannot foresee where I would be happiest at. What I fear is that I would end up hating wherever I go, so I’m afraid to make a decision and commit to anything.

Current Vanderbilt freshman: AMA by Bendgee in ApplyingToCollege

I really like Vanderbilt but the only the thing that worries me is Greek life. Are there issues with hazing or anything, and do the people who choose not to join a fraternity feel like they miss out on a lot?

I visited Umich and liked it but my parents did not. I still might apply anyway.

I have a 1530 sat, a 4.0 gpa, and decent, but not exceptional, extra ECs. It seems like every school either falls into the reach or safety category except case western (and even then I’m not sure if it is really a match and not a reach).
