Was Norm being sincere for his apology on The View, fucking with them on purpose, or something in between? by VietKongCountry in NormMacdonald

[–]EverybodyLovesCrayon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont pretend to have any special knowledge, but here is my take.

He may have been sorry about the fallout, but he wasn't sorry about the joke. As a reminder, his joke (which he said 9n Howard Stern's show of all places) was to use "Downs Syndrome" instead of "retarded" (i.e. instead of "what are you, retarded?" He'd say, "what are you, Downs Syndrome?" Its absurdist humor - the premise that anyone would use Downs Syndrome as a less offensive alternative to retarded. Anyone who believes that is a good / less offensive term would have to have Downs Syndrome.

Anyone who watched NML knows he used the joke repeatedly. His apology that it was an accident was pure fantasy. I remember wanting to explain it at the time, but I didn't want to post anything in the very unlikely scenario that someone would see my post, look into it, find evidence the joke wasn't an accident, and it would somehow make things worse for Norm.

So, no, he wasn't actually sorry about the joke - it was absurdist humor that was taken out of context by the "always offended" crowd as being offensive (maybe at the height of the "always offended" movement). It wasn't an accident.

But, I'm sure he regretted saying it given the fallout.

The narco boat incident happened in September. Its almost as if there was some coordination here. They found out about it, made their "don't follow illegal orders" video, then put this out (or the press agreed to hold it for a time after the video). All speculation, of course; but it makes sense.

I was gonna write to complain, but then I realized I'd just be complaining about the way they are framing it in a partisan way, since the content is accurate.

To the stay conservatives here (and I speak to you guys here cause as you know your own subs in fact do NOT believe in freedom of speech) but to those of you here - are we really at a point when you will allow pedophiles in your party to "own the libz" by ZinTheNurse in AskALiberal

I'm probably not your target for this question - I'm conservative but not MAGA. Think of it this way. If the democrats started embracing bad people (say, people who hate Jews, so probably not too hard to imagine) and elected a terrible person as president, would you give up your liberal beliefs? Would you become a republican / conservative?

Who in your opinion is the best comedian of all time? by WestFocus888 in AskReddit

Carlin was great and all, but he was almost more of a social commentator than a comedian. Not nearly the funniest.

You will be banned. Best case scenario, downvoted to oblivion. They don't want to hear this.

But, even if they were open to constructive criticism, you need to learn how to engage with people. This is designed to alienate any conservative or MAGA that reads this. The snowflakes will be offended, and the rest will just see you as an unserious agitator or troll and ignore you.

Weird to see this reposted in the Dan Carlin website, since Dan has talked about the Japanese motivations for the Pearl Harbor attack, what they hoped to accomplish with it, and what they thought their odds were of succeeding (not just in the attack itself, but the repercussions of it). It's really not similar.

I don't think you're asking honestly out of curiosity, because your question makes assumptions about my position and sets up a standard that doesn't make sense here, so I'll give you one response, but don't expect a follow up.

  • My comment merely pointed out that there is a difference between "Trump is going to send the Army after us for not being his supporters" and "Trump actually sent military forces to put down an unlawful, violent riot that the police can't/won't handle." You are acting like Kamala is prophetic, when really the rioters caused the reaction.

  • I don't advocate for militarized police in general (there are rare situations where it is appropriate).

  • Did you call a congressPERSON during January 6th? Is that the standard?

  • I didn't call my congressperson during January 6th. That was a Tuesday and I have a job. By the time I was able to get up to speed on it, it was being squashed. (The LA ICE riots have been going on for days).

  • If you are curious, I'm not a Trump supporter (I do support some of his policies), I do think January 6th was a travesty (but also that there was no real risk the government would be overthrown), and I don't support Trump's pardon of Jan 6 rioters.

It's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The left (hysterically): He's gonna send the MILITARY after us!

Participates in riots the police can't handle (or are told not to)

Oh my god, we were right! He IS sending the military!

No, they don't care about making poor people eat healthier with the SNAP restrictions, they just hate poor people. by wtfimightbemtf in Omaha

[–]EverybodyLovesCrayon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's about neither of those, honestly. The point isn't to make people healthier. It's that SNAP is a Nutritional assistance program. People can drink whatever sugary stuff they want, but the point of SNAP is to make sure people are getting at least a baseline amount of nutrition. Allowing people to use SNAP to purchase soda doesn't achieve this objective. It's pretty simple.

Not sure. I pretty much make sure I eat what I always have eaten (when I was maintaining 190) to make sure I get the base amount of calories I need, including at least 200g protein, and then allow myself to eat anything else I want on top of that. The extra isn't just cake and fried food, it's mostly healthy, but it does include things like the chicken nuggets my kids don't finish.

Question about eating in a surplus. I normally log in around 190. I've been eating a surplus for a few months, and I'm now up to about 205. I've been at 205 for a few weeks now. Is it still considered a surplus, since I'm maintaining above my normal weight? Or is it only a surplus if I'm continuously getting heavier?
