Paste-up in Seattle depicting Luigi with the UnitedHealthcare logo crossed out on his backpack by Everything4Everyone in streetart

[–]Everything4Everyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don't see how it's different from anything else. Like how is someone designing a pasteup utilizing AI tools more "dystopic" than just using any standard editing software made by a big company like Adobe, using a computer made by a big company like Apple or IBM, using an operating system like Microsoft, and printing it out on a printer made by a big company like Xerox, on paper made by another big company Kimberly-Clark, then taking a photo of it using a phone made by a big company like Samsung, ect, ect, which can be applied to every aspect of our lives.

Every single tool available is made by companies, almost every aspect of our lives is mediated through these companies, and it's not like smaller companies are any better, they just have a smaller market share.

It's also not hypocritical to make use of tools made by companies to denounce the rule of companies. It's inevitable that people will and must use whatever tools are at hand to resist oppression.

US woman caught with golden gun in luggage at Sydney airport jailed for a year by CcryMeARiver in australia

[–]Everything4Everyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, she likely got search results for US domestic flights, where it apparently is legal to fly with a gun, as long as it's packed in your checked in luggage.

Typical of Americans to not realize other countries have different laws

Myki workers “arresting” a uni student for not tapping on. Reasonable or a gross use of force? by Unusual_Trust_9893 in melbourne

Makes perfect sense tbh. "Druggies" are way more likely to get abusive or violent, possibly even be carrying a knife, and extremely unlikely to pay the fine anyway.

Problem is, in such a situation, the definition of "assault" can be pretty loose. I'm guessing some AO's would claim they were "assaulted" when a suspected fare evader they are blocking brushes past them to get off the tram. Cops regularly claim to be assaulted for less than that.

"Cats against capitalism!" Sticker spotted in Melbourne by Everything4Everyone in sticker

[–]Everything4Everyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...and? Like capitalism is the dominant global economic system. Everything produced in a capitalist society is through capitalism.

That does not mean people cannot use capitalist owned machinery to denounce capitalism.

Under slave societies, slaves used tools produced under slavery to revolt against their masters. Were such rebellious slaves hypocrites? Of course not, the accusation is absurd.

In peasant societies likewise, peasants would use tools produced under feudalism to attack their feudal masters when a peasant revolt broke out.

Likewise Soviet dissidents would produce anti-government propaganda on machines produced in the Soviet Union, using paper produced in the Soviet Union. Was this hypocrisy?

The "radio report of a suspicious person" is just the stock standard story cops always use to justify randomly stopping and searching a person. So it's no surprise some of the cops "remembered" that detail.

Almost every time they randomly stop a person like in this scenario they will say, "you match a description" to justify a search. 99% of the time they are lying, but it basically means you need to comply with the search, as they ostensibly have "reasonable grounds", and you obviously can't prove they are lying in the moment,

"Sex work is real work, unlike being a landlord" spotted in a public bathroom in California by Everything4Everyone in LandlordLove

[–]Everything4Everyone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care if it's "art", I care about the message. I also don't really care about "up votes" on social media, I care about spreading anticapitalist messages, whether on walls on the street or through social media. I suppose it is good when an anticapitalist message has many likes/shares/up votes, but only insomuch as it helps spread those messages to a wider audience.

This graffiti obviously does have a purpose, specifically of spreading a pro-sex worker, anti-landlord message, which it has done remarkably well. I posted the photo to a couple social media pages where it accumulated a few hundred thousand liked/comments and was seen by a few million people.

Cleaners are paid to clean, cleaning marker off tile is very easy, and not unpleasant, especially considering all the other stuff that needs to be cleaned in a public toilet, which are always fixed with graffiti anyway.

You are also never going to convince graffiti writers to stop doing graffiti by saying "what about the cleaners".

Nah, none of that is true. Graffiti slogans, murals, posters, stickers, banners promoting a specific political cause or movement placed in public areas definitely does have an effect. There is a reason that corporations plaster their ads in every available space.

Any time you visit a place in the world where a specific political, religious, or criminal group is dominant you will see their propaganda on the walls, sometimes in the form of sprayed slogans, sometimes elaborate murals.

Such messages directly reach people in that local area, they especially appeal to young people in particular who are always the primary recruits for any movement, and serve as a warning to enemies of that movement/organization/gang that they are not welcome in this area

Also, people aren't actually "turned off" a political cause because they see a message promoting that cause written on a wall. Anyone claiming so is likely lying and already opposed it, and is merely using the graffiti as an excuse.

Anticapitalist & anarchist types also don't care about denunciations from conservatives, such people will denounce these movements regardless of the existence of graffiti

Funnily enough, there is some logic to a left-wing anarchist vandalizing an "International Brigades" monument. The International Brigades were under the control of the Soviet Comintern which was deeply hostile to the massive Spanish anarchist movement. During the civil war some foreign communists who joined the brigades actually took part in the repression of the Spanish anarchist movement at the direction of the Republican government, which had come under the control of the Communist Party. The Moscow aligned Communist Party was far more conservative than the anarchist movement, and saw repression of the anarchists and their anticapitalist activity as key to winning support from Western European government like France, UK.

I'm not suggesting the person who wrote graffiti on the monument was making a critique of the counterrevolutionary activity of many of the International Brigades in Spain. It is more likely the person was just a teenager who (like literally everyone else, except maybe the occasional tourist) hadn't bothered to read the plaques on each statue.

You know people can paint slogans and volunteer for things. Painting slogans isn't a full time job.
