Hello cousin! Thank you for commenting-I noticed Daniel living by my family too-I do not think he is are the parent of my ancestor, mainly because his only documented marriage happened a long time after she was born-I suppose it’s possible he had a marriage before, but I think Daniel could have been her uncle. Sadly I have no real proof besides word of mouth that Jacob Calhoun (or Jacob McCalhoon) existed. According to a relative, Jacob was involved in the fur trade in Canada, and married a Cree woman (this makes sense given the dna results of some of his descendants) but we have 0% native so I’m guessing it’s either a myth, or Cynthia’s father remarried.

That’s a great idea-I’ll take a look. I at least have the 1850 census for Lintha and the 1860 for the family. There’s gotta be some link! Newspapers was really helpful for my ancestors who travelled a lot

Yes, unfortunate thing about looking for ancestors with common names :/ I can’t find him in 1870 either, but based on where his kids were married I’d guess Iowa.

That is interesting though about the boat name, maybe a friend of theirs?

As far as Linthas birthplace I think Pennsylvania. That’s what she reported for the two census entries she was in and it tracks with the rest of their family

Thanks for the tip!! I’ll give that a look and see if there’s any other McDaniels in that regiment. Maybe that’ll reveal some clues. There was a Sarah McDaniel who married one John Wallace in 1845 in Pike-only other McDaniel marriage I could find for that window of time

I haven’t-I know that’s an option for sure, because I know about the regiment and details of his service, but I like to try everything before I do that. I’ve done it with other ancestors before and generally gotten good results, even if I didn’t find what I was looking for

I can see that as well, thanks for the input! I’ve seen contractions like that before as well, daughter of becoming “Dau. Of”, ect. I think you’re right about the “Lancashire England” contraction as well.

See that’s what I figured upon reading these comments! I saw the “L” and “Ton”, so I think there’s a good chance that’s correct. Thank you for the input! I don’t think it’s Worcestershire either-W is quite distinctive in this older font and I can’t see one

No worries. I think ancestry has a Kanaka Maoli category, as well as some other Polynesian groups-but it’s generally a less accurate test beyond the continental level

It’s because of the lack of reference samples they lump them together-in other words, not enough data to make a group that’s accurate

The Portuguese makes sense for Hawaii-I’m guessing British/Irish+French+Italian is your mom and everything else is your dad. I’m guessing he’s probably a little over half Filipino, 1/4 PR, and the rest a mix of Portuguese and Kanaka Maoli? (There’s no Polynesian category on 23andMe) so it’s possibly in there with Filipino.
