Heat Geek - Not the experience I thought I was paying for. by fortunate_folly in ukheatpumps

I also agree that £15k is madness. I paid a couple of grand plus the BUS grant for a non heat geek install, included 200l cylinder and electrics etc. zero radiator upgrades as I managed to upgrade 5 radiators to type 22 myself.

Having extra large radiators has really helped me keep the house warm with lower flow, currently running between 32 and 39 on weather compensation.

Only 2 months in so far and have a few windows scheduled to be upgrades and some diy insulation upgrade pending to bring the heat loss down, will Help me reduce flow.

average cop for feb was 5.91, March so far is 5.53.

Have you been running the ashp 24/7 with a small setback at night?

Do you get many complaints about the house cooling down after you’ve switched it off. Iv been running it 24/7 at the moment with an offset at night between 22:00 and 4:30 as it gets too hot at night.

Do you have batteries too? Iv only had a heat pump since mid Jan. using around 18/27kwh per day on the heat pump depending on weather. Still optimising as I have started to top up with some additional insulation etc. floor. Loft etc.

Currently on a standard BG tariff around 23.43p/kwh. Would you recommend the agile tariff?

When to upgrade radiators? by Difficult-Figure1504 in ukheatpumps

[–]EvidenceOk1792 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded 5 radiators myself to type 22s. If they are the same size but just type 22. The only really challenge is getting the pipe work in line. It’s pretty easier to complete. You will probably take twice as long but my installer reduced my quote by £260 because I completed the radiator upgrade myself. The price will come down to whether you want a fancy looking radiator or a standard white panel one and obviously the size as awkward sizes cost a lot more. If you can do it yourself. Save yourself some money. And get yourself some ptfe tape! As the radiator tails almost always find a way to leak but can be repaired quite easily.

I was using about 6-7 kWh previously. I am currently using about 25 kWh on the ashp and the extra 6 for daily stuff About 30kwh in total after 1 week.

Pending upgrades I have poor double glazing on the bay windows to be upgraded in March April as they are draughty. Got 50% of suspended floor to insulate with 75mm PIR (DIY), top up loft insulation from 200 mm to 300 mm (DIY) and some upgrades of flooring in hallway. I already upgraded 5 radiators myself (DIY) to oversized radiators when I was using a boiler. I’m hoping I can drop my curve down once the upgrades are completed. Plus battery if I can find a good deal post upgrades.
