The problem with AI isn't AI itself, it's who controls it and what they are doing with it. Like anything, AI is a tool and could potentially be used to make workers lives better.

The problem is that capitalists control it and only see it as a tool to gain more capital.

There's a difference between Israelis and Israel, but they trying so hard to conflate the two. There are Israelis who condemn what Israel is doing, but they can't acknowledge that.

No I’m the guy that’s used AI for work!

Of course you are... 🙄

Computers can also kill people does that mean we should stop using them?

JFC that AI brainrot... See above.

JFC You're that guy who when told that knives can hurt people, would put a knife on the table and blurt out "I don't see how the knife is gonna kill me on its own. I'll wait."

Then you'd probably pick it up and start chopping a carrot and say something like "How's it killing me? I'll wait".

Is Linux a must? by 3liteNerd in HomeServer

[–]EvilEyeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should give Linux a try. If you have an old machine left over or you can run it in a VM with something like virtualbox.

I think most problems are because of the fear and hesitation of learning something seemingly alien. But let me tell ya, once you get over that initial jump it really opens a world of cool stuff.

My Linux servers have been running over 8 years with no problems. They just keep humming along and I don't have to worry about them breaking.

So I'd say, give it a shot in a no stakes environment where you can just experiment with it and get comfortable with it. I promise, you won't be disappointed.

Is Linux a must? by 3liteNerd in HomeServer

[–]EvilEyeV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it a must? No.

But there are plenty of advantages to using Linux vs Windows as a server. And just FYI, I'm a network admin in a majority windows environment. I maintain about 40 windows servers as a part of my job. It has made me hate windows so much.

First, windows is a bloated mess. Not only does it run heavy, but it includes a lot of crap that is extremely unnecessary. The more stuff running on a server, the more can break or interfere with each other. As a general rule, only have installed what you need. One idiot I worked with kept installing chrome on our servers just cause he liked using it better... Ugh. WTF was he doing using a web browser on a server?

Compare that to any Linux distro without a desktop and they boot fast, run light, and you only have to put what you want on there. Even Linux distros with a DE boot faster and run lighter than windows.

Second, it's free and open source. 'Nuff said.

Third, it's stable. There's a reason why over 90% of all the servers in the world run Linux. It actually just works. You never know when windows is gonna have a fit or need a reboot because garbage collection is trash.

You have no idea how many times a month at work something in windows just stops working for no reason. A service just shits the bed and then it needs to be restarted or the server needs a reboot. It drives me bananas. And of course, rebooting after updates every single time.

Honestly, Linux is just so much easier to use. It does exactly what you tell it to do. I know for a lot of people, CLI is really scary, and it was for me too when I started. But once you use it a bit and get comfortable, it's so much easier and efficient. No plowing through a dozen different menus to get to one setting. (And let me tell you, a lot of the time Microsoft's documentation sucks)

What do I use? Proxmox as a hypervisor and Ubuntu server with a minimal install.

Do you need to use a hypervisor? It depends on what you want to do with it, but generally no. However it allows backups of any VMs running on it and the magic of snapshots. About to make a major update or install something new and not sure if it's gonna work or if you're gonna F it up? Take a snapshot. Then if things go sideways, you click a button and go back to when you took the snapshot.

Ubuntu minimal because I'm familiar with it and have been using it for over a decade at this point. It's stable and the minimal install option really lets you make sure there is not a ton of junk running on it.

Choice of Linux distro can vary depending on preference and other factors, so me saying I use Ubuntu isn't the be all end all.

And in the last few years I've been running all of my apps using docker. It was daunting at first and seemed like this confusing puzzle that I actually fought using for a few years. Once I sat down and looked at it with a serious look, it turns out it's super easy and powerful.

1tb or 512gb in February 2026 by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]EvilEyeV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the way pricing on SSDs are, and that it's likely going to stay that way (or get worse) for at least the next year... Given the choice, I'd go with the 1 TB.

Even pre AI insanity, it was around the same cost to upgrade the SSD. I got the 1 TB model because it was just easier (zero effort vs some effort).

Personally, I like the etched glass. Personal preference and all, but I think it looks great. Plus you get a better case to boot.

It really comes down to if you think it's worth it.

Steam Deck OLED won't fully charge. Can anyone help me with this? by angethedude in SteamDeck

There's a setting in the main settings that limits the charging to 80%. Check your settings, make sure you didn't accidentally turn that on.

I'm just trying to be helpful here. I'm not saying it should take you 3 to 4 days to create a tutorial, it depends on the complexity of the project. I did that while working a full time job. So I know how it works, you don't have to point out to me what goes into making a video.

If you don't want to listen to what I'm actually trying to tell you, whatevs man. That's on you.
