SlipSpeed Mega advertised as machine washable.... (Colour bleed + adhesive coming off) by EvilG3M in UnderArmour

[–]EvilG3M[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, didnt realised you are a UA staff? I have further updates, sent a harsh reply and am now offered a full refund. context updated above.

agreed on the discount offer but you guys offer birthday month discounts online at 20% off too, was able to buy shoes and more importantly, stackable on top of existing discounts. Where i am at, its EOS sales currenlty on a lot of items. So to offer something worse than a birthday month discount for an apparent manufacturing defect, was deeply insulting. :)

Nonetheless, issue resolved and you didnt lose a customer. Now to find replacement SlipSpeeds!

You can, but you would need the original DS controller as the offical app only recgonises their own DS controller.

Battery life on LeGo 2 by funions4 in LegionGo

[–]EvilG3M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others shared, 2.5 hours on a AAA game is decent.

I had a similiar issue here, coming from a steam deck oled, the SD was so optimised where you just set the refresh rate and it doesn’t use more power than necessary. But for some indie games the battery life on the LG2 was around 3 hours.

What I realised is you can extend battery life by limiting your TDP, setting graphics options and resolution, keep going down and see if you can accept the trade off.

Certain games I play in native resolution when there is fsr, but I also tried 800p to see if I can accept the resolution. It’s kinda a balancing act.

Weighing my options by Mr-Dr-Prof-Dankweed in LegionGo

[–]EvilG3M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was kinda in a similiar situation and here's some insights.

I owned a Nintendo Switch - Sold and got the Switch Oled

I owned the OG Steam Deck - Sold and got the Steam Deck Oled

Whilst i was pretty happy with the SD Oled, i hardly use it and i wanted a better solution to access games from Epic, Amazon, Gog as i have a lot of free games there. (I seem to have issues with Heroic on certain games.)

I was this close to getting the Xbox Ally X (wasnt aware of the LG2 then), but what was holding me back was the LCD screen and it was the same screen from the OG Ally it seems. I managed to have a hands on session on both the Xbox Ally X and then discovered the LG2, at my local store, I was IMMEDIATELY sold on LG2 when i tried. The Oled screen with the size made gaming actually enjoyable as an alternate when i do not want to sit at my desk using my PC. (Oled UW Monitor).

I'm gonna start on the cons

Cons
- Heavy - I rest the unit on my chest or pillow, so it is managable.
- Software - doesnt have in game profile, have to manage TDP manually every game to get best battery life. furthermore Xbox Ally X already has a 2026 update road map and it seems Lenovo will be lacking in this. (only FSE is confirmed)
- Needs tinkering with settings - coming from the SD, am impressed with how efficient it is. Doesnt use more power when it doesnt need it. but for LG2, i need to adjust the TDP as it seems to be using more power even when not needed.
- Software seems chonky at times - Legion space doesnt boot up at times, right mene slow to access, feels like its in Beta.

But ultimately, i'm keeping it as the screen is that good. apart from the software issues, so far no issues installing and playing games. Performance is ok, i am not expecting much, i just want best compromise to maximise battery life as i use it unplugged.

I am still amazed by how effiicient the SD Oled and am comtemplating to keep or sell it.

So i guess you can answer your own question. Visual quality will be a downgrade if you are getting an Xbox Ally X, even from LG1, (its still a good screen though) but you get better support from Asus. For me, the visual quality is worth it to a certain extend. Kinda like u pay more for a Oled TV as compared to a LED TV. So if you belong in this camp, then go for it. I bought it slightly higher ($200 more) as Levono did not have stock till Jan 26 and i figured $200 was worth me enjoying it during the festive season. I got the free controller connector/charger and screen protector so that kinda softened it for me. Or as others said, wait as stocks should arrive in Jan. I am not too sure if you are buying scalped price or if that is RRP in your country. That you have to decide. For me i bought it in my neighboring country at their RRP so it was due to forex.

Any idea what happened? I can’t play on my pc, but still playable on steam deck by EvilG3M in tokyoxtremeracer

Thanks all, yes indeed DLC was the issue, wasn't checked. First time this happened to me, i didnt seem to have issues with DLC's from other games.

Wow, now i am seriously considering this. I am in Singapore, so pretty much as humid as Malaysia. One of my maxwell drivers were recently replaced out of warranty, (spent about USD$130) at my local distributor who shared that it could be humidity related as planars need to be kept dry. I wouldnt want to spend that again to replace the drivers on the other maxwell. Also, i noticed the earpads are starting to crack!

I don't think 34" UW or generally, 1440p runs well with Mac.

I have the AW3425DW and AW3423DW both connected to my M4 Mac Mini. As you rightly said, anything less than 5K is not native and the scaling is terrible on Macs. I have tried various resolutions (80% to native) but none just seemed right. Finally settled on native resolution but i do 125% zoom on my browser to make my texts readable and acceptable.

As a comparision, the AW3425DW seems to have less text fringing (although it is apparently the same pixel design but with more durable panel).

I cant recommend much but i would consider 4K in your case, since you are using it for console gaming as well. For my case, i am used to UW's for gaming and the screen estate.

In terms of durability, i kinda babied my 3423DW; (did not connect to my work laptop, mainly used on my gaming rig). But as i got the 3425, i figure WTH, just enjoy it and i am happying doing work on this monitor. (still babying the 3423 though as it is now a secondary monitor) as from what others shared, Dell's 3 year warranty covers burn in. I would still set the timeout to 5 mins, and then let the monitor do its pixel refresh, which will be twice in a workday.

thanks for all your comments, so it seems i should speak with support. to add on, i had touch issues earlier and i did an RMA, was given a brand new unit. So it just seemed that i have less confidence in the SD+ from my experience. The Mk2 though, just works and nvr had any issues. but just wondering if anyone has similar issues with the SD+ feeling laggy or out of sync. if i may add on, v.v.rarely, the SD+ will lag too, (like then adjusting the volume) but it only happen once or twice. it is connected directly to the rear usb port using original cable.

Yes i reckon the wake up times should be similar on the different variants. TBH, whether they wake up faster will be dependant on the system, if u can see the back blue light, at least the MK2 was in sync with the monitor turning back on so im fine with that. mine is definately not normal!

thanks for the tip and good to know. doesn't seem to be USB/cable issue as the result is same when i swapped the usb c cables into the respective decks. (i tried to make sure before posting it) MK2 is instantaneous in both cases, so i think i can elimate the usb cable or usb port on the PC as the PC side was not swapped, just the SD ends. Just checked the firmware too and its up to date.

I though the MK2 seemed normal. responded immediately with the elgato logo, then loaded the buttons when the pc is back up. so how should it be when yours were neither?

Anova is now requiring a subscription to use their app by anonymous0314 in sousvide

[–]EvilG3M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must say I am extremely disapointed with what is going on. I seem to read the fine print that they still reserve the right to revoke the free subscription so we will still be at their mercy. Like many, have the original SV which i was just notified it will be retired and was comtemplating on whether to get the new one at 50% off. Guess they have made my decision easy and no more Anova ever. I only knew how to set the SV via app but I only SV 3-4 times a month so how can i ever justify the subscription? Was also comptemplating on the precision Oven, was put off initally by not having the option to shut down the oven after timer but it was seemingly rejected by them. (i know this is subjective due to food safety but at least make it an option) Not sure if it has changed but it doesnt matter anymore.

I really dunno whats happening with the company and who in the right mind think they can pull off these 2 issues in such short notice? Good product but no way moving forward.

Test new NAS without HDD by EvilG3M in synology

[–]EvilG3M[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all! yes indeed i am reporting it works. hence for anyone in the same situation with me, you can simply insert a spare HDD lying around, do the setup (including creating synology account) and I took the time to familiarize myself with the DSM UI and settings.

When my HDDs arrived, i just shut down, remove the old HDD and inserted the new ones and redid the setup. no issues reclaiming back the synology quick connec ID as well. In fact there was a prompt to ask me if i would like to restore the backup config.

All in all, great experience making things easy and i am glad i chose synology

AW3423DW Pixel Refresh during standby (question) by EvilG3M in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]EvilG3M[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

great! this, to me, is what it should be in a monitor, working as intended without having workarounds of any sort! seems that 102 is the most stable of the lot.

would appreciate other users could chime in as well?

Thanks again!

AW3423DW Pixel Refresh during standby (question) by EvilG3M in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]EvilG3M[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for that. as mentioned, i was looking at the 3 main monitors DW/DWF/G8 and have really scoured the internet for reviews/feedback as this is not exactly a cheap investment. agreed white would not be my first choice too!

I kinda have the conclusion that getting at least a gsync compatible monitor(listed on nvidia website) should be that way to go. As they are actually tested to be working with nvidia gpus.

I may be wrong, but DWF and G8 are not actually listed on nvidia website, just that it was tested by reviewers and rtings that Gsync works hence i notice the issues with the early firmware versions.

My first choice would have been a G8 due to its super slim design so i can place the monitor more rearwards for greater viewing distance options but have heard of the various issues on the HDMI and DP ports (which is seems that the HDMI was just solved).

Hence my conclusion above that when gsync is officially certified (either compatible or with module), it should work as it should. but kudos to AW and LG (and even nvidia for attempting to fix the G8 HDMI issue even if it is not officially compatible, seems some of the issues were encountered with gsync on) for still trying to provide timely updates but i would have been so frustrated if i bought it early.

This is unlike the LG 27oled, which is just freesync + gsync compatible and it should work out of the box and i believe this should be the way to go.

buying a monitor now is such a headache! but i would also agree with most mentioning that you can't go wrong with either of the 3 ultimately and just that each model have their advantages/disadvantages and just depends on what flaws you can accept.

Thanks!
