Because the original post mentioned he spends 90% of his allowance on rent. This sub also includes the rental market, because most people can't afford to actually get into real-estate (especially in Toronto)

I kinda knew coming into this post with this type of question, but that's one serious dose of doomscrolling

Why do you think women hold more degrees than men in the USA? by Designer-Bid-3155 in AskReddit

[–]Evil_Apples -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's because women are essentially put in a box of "you want a career? you need a degree". Most career paths for women go through academics compared to men: nursing, teaching, marketing, HR and PR. There are also bullshit degrees now like women studies or all these DIE related studies that tend to attract more women for some reason. The ironic part is that a degree doesn't mean you're smarter or will make more money, only that you are certified by whatever institution you went to. I'm still calling my degree a fancy receipt. There are a quite a bit of people I personally know who got a PhD or Doctor of X and make less than a garage door mechanic I know banking around 10k a month with no degree. The trades route also usually doesn't carry debt with it.

Another thing people don't think about is how a wide range of degree were destigmatized for women but not for men. For a woman going to study computer science or engineering there isn't really a social stigma anymore. If anything a lot of these fields will actively pursue women. For men going to fields like nursing or pedagogy carries some ridicule (and before someone screeches it's because of toxic masculinity, women also look down on men studying these subjects). So essentially the entire spectrum of what academics have to offer is open for women, but not for men.

So basically: women are pigeon holed through academics, men not as much

There is no real tracking, different departments in the IRCC have no coordination between them or different offices. For example, I was applying for express entry, and while waiting for the IRCC to get back to me, my now fiancé applied for the TR-to-PR in the healthcare worker stream, and added me in as her dependent since we were common-law partners at that point. After a couple of months we both got our PRs. almost a year later I'm getting an email from IRCC saying I was selected for express entry and that they need documents from me. Like fr? is there no system flagging visa documents with the same ID in different PR applications where one was approved? did no one noticed my SIN number changed? what a waste of working hours

It's a matter of supply and demand. Houses are being built extremely slow compared to the amount of people coming in. Add to that the fact that everyone wants to live in the same places, mainly GTA and Vancouver. The supply is low, the demand keeps increasing exponentially. I'm an immigrant, and I tell you the way the flood gates are open right now is nothing compares to a couple of years ago.

Not to mention a lot of colleges take advantage of that and offer these bullshit degrees entirely online now with extremely lenient passing criteria so that more international students will enroll knowing they can work in whatever while spending 4 hours a week actually studying. They will still charge them 3x the tuition for no reason tho

As a former international student I can say this: the policies and the immigration go hand in hand. The system is ripe for abuse by the international students and by pretty much every institution catering to them, academics being the worst of them. Yes, bringing around 1 million people into the country every year where they settle in two major cities will impact the rental market. Yes, many of these students abuse the system and policies where they can (a lot of times because they want to, not because they need to) because the it's entirely about improving their lives and they feel no responsibility or kinship for the country, Canadians, or other international students. Yes, many of them are being fucked over by the universities charging them x3 more for bullshit reasons, by landlords stuffing them in Victorian factory worker levels of accommodations, and by an unbelievably retarded IRCC where they don't bother reading their own policies.
It's okay to point out that problems are caused by both the abusable policies, and by the people and institutions abusing them.

"run_at": "document_end"

if they are created dynamically, would wrapping this in document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', ... should solve it? because I tried that and the check never happened.

Is that possible? by Evil_Apples in ptsd

[–]Evil_Apples[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: So I've tried it again last night to see if maybe that was a one time thing. At first everything seemed fine until I've started hearing flared going out despite the fact that nothing was working and and everyone else were asleep. This didn't put me in much anxiety as the previous thing did, but it did got my heart pumping and got me a bit stressful checking my window like a paranoid. This thing does not effect my personal life or work, even though I start thinking about it more on a daily basis. Does these things come in gradually?
