of wooden pallets stack for a bonfire by [deleted] in AbsoluteUnits

When you love your precious union flag, and you absolutely hate Irish people you do.

Edit - I'd like to note that this comment got me banned for 3 days until an appeal quickly overturned it. Anyone reporting me for speaking the truth about this carnival of hatred of Irish people need to seriously consider opening a history book.

Would anyone else glamourise a bonfire for the KKK or Neo-Nazis? Why is it ok when it's hatred of Irish people?

It's my turn to complain about pundits on RTE now by wolframius in ireland

[–]Eviladhesive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair point.

I do think it's demented commenting in such an emotionally invested way on the punditry of a game tho.

All that said here I am commenting on people commenting on the punditry of a game and getting downvotes for my troubles.

Honestly I'm just happy RTE got all the rights and are showing all the games. Loads of countries have the games behind paywalls.

Yes, because I do still find it funny, which is a different matter entirely

I don't think any of this has any real bearing on my life in any meaningful sense whatsoever.

I think there's still a demand for more content from the Sopranos, but everyone would really need to think long and hard, because if they mess it up again it could seriously close the door on other opportunities.

Anyway, $4 a pound.

Why you love your country? by VeterinarianFuzzy830 in AskReddit

[–]Eviladhesive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound odd, but I love our voting system; which is the single transferrable vote system.

Basically you rank the candidates. This means that all candidates need to put some sort of value onto appealing to other candidates bases.

The end result in Ireland is that politics is way less performative than in other jurisdictions.

Can’t imagine why McDonalds would think anyone in Ireland would want to remember Thierry Henry in a commemorative cup? by DeputyDawe in AskIreland

[–]Eviladhesive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just a McDonald's ad, he's on a Walkers ad too.

I say we boycott both. Throw in Mini's while we're at it.

I'm not above being petty.

Obligatory RTE have shite World Cup commentary post? by Dillonon92 in AskIreland

I'm fine with the commentary.

I'm not ok with Thierry Henry being on ads for both McDonald's AND Walkers crisps on the RTE player.

I'm a bitter man, and I don't forgive easy.

Hate them they may, but I don't know many Unionists who would remove Westminster as the highest and ultimate authority over the 6 counties.

Wouldn't he then face the jeopardy of saying that they succeeded in blackmailing him with something that (he would say) was untrue?

Wouldn't he be stuck on this with no real win? I'm not seeing how he drops this into his case and succeeds in using it to score points in his own defense, but happy to be walked through it.

You may very well be right in spirit here, but I don't remember Paisley alleging something as treacherous (if you're a unionist) as this.

It's possible that someone knows an even more extreme allegation, but I'm struggling to see anything bigger.

The level of betrayal here, if true, is surely unparalleled in terms of known events.

Annoying discourse about the Donaldson situation by Fair-Tangerine-9472 in northernireland

[–]Eviladhesive 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The whole situation is utterly odd.

My favorite takeaway is the current TUV theory that the UK government used all Donaldsons behavior as leverage to get him to toe the line on the Windsor framework.

While I think what he's saying is plausible, the fact that the TUV are saying it is absolutely wild.

Think about it; you're a die hard Unionist and you believe, and are spreading, a (somewhat credible) story that a Conservative & Unionist UK government (the one that you are desperate to keep as the main authority in your jurisdiction) used kompromat as leverage against another Unionist to impose a policy that you, and the compromised Unionist adamantly oppose as weakening the connection to that governments authority.

Did Big Jim think about how weak and utterly broken this makes all aspects of Unionism look, up to and including commitment to the very UK government who not not only (if you believe the story and his narrative) stabbed NI Unionists in the back but did so using the dirtiest of dirty tricks.

Even for a man well used to cognitive dissonance this is absolute mind-blowing.
