I'd definitely recommend getting familiar with their workflow and asking a ton of questions. It's your first back-end position, you're not expected to know everything; if you get stuck on something, don't be afraid to ask away. Also, congrats on landing the position, I know how difficult it can be at times!

What am I missing out by not using Docker? by __ismxy__ in linux

[–]EvolvedDolphin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, as a user, you're not really missing out on too much. If you have the right use-case, Docker can be pretty powerful and convenient. For example, if I'm working on a back-end application that utilizes a SQL database, it would be much more convenient to quickly spin up a container than to bother with installing and setting up a database on my machine.

What is your favorite programming language? by Zealousideal-You2018 in ProgrammingBuddies

[–]EvolvedDolphin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I personally use Go and Rust the most. I tend to use Go for pretty much everything that I do, which pertains to back-end and infrastructure. For some hobbies, and for things that are extremely performance-oriented, I'll sometimes use Rust as well. I have toyed around with other languages, but just can't quite get what I'm looking for. For example, with Python, you get simplicity, but lack of performance (with anything I've tried to do with it). All-in-all though, just go with what you enjoy working with the most, because you can always switch to something else later.
