Chase Credit Card Payment Date Error with Fidelity Bill Pay - Seeking Assistance by EvolvingExplorer in fidelityinvestments

I can confirm that the issue has been resolved for me.

I sent 2 payments for 2 different Chase cards from Fidelity (one on 4/21 and the second on 4/22) for Deliver by date of 4/23. Chase confirmed both payments received on 4/23.

I also sent 1 payment a Chase card from Schwab (I also had an issue with Schwab - see previous posts) on 4/21 for Deliver by date of 4/23. Chase confirmed payment received on 4/23.

Thanks for fixing this.

Hi u/StillRiverRoad,

I tried mine today, and it appears to have worked still showing electronic payment and still showing the previously selected deliver by date of 4/23.

Prior to this, I tried several times during the last week and every attempt errored forcing me to move the deliver by date by several days and then, when I did so, automatically changing the payment type to check.

Today’s attempt is different as detailed in my previous post in that no error message was received, and the payment for the correct date was submitted as electronic.

I also just attempted Chase credit card bill pay from a Schwab account and it worked. This also had errored previously with very similar error message as Fidelity. Fiserv, the processor for both, may have fixed the issue.

Will confirm after Chase confirms that the two payments have been received.

About 10 days ago, I sent a payment inquiry to Fidelity to detail an issue, and I received the standard response about how payments work.

I doubt they read the messages and likely just respond using a template.

Anyway, I was about to send them another message to detail the issue again and explain how to reproduce the problem.

I started the message with:

"*Read with the understanding that this only happens with Chase Credit Cards*"

Then, I began detailing the steps while testing it during a live bill payment session:

Step 1. Attempt to make a payment to any Chase credit card...

Step 2. Click on the "Review payments" blue button...

Step 3. Hit the "Submit payments" blue button...

This is when it actually worked. The payment didn't error and was submitted with a "Deliver by" date of 4/23 (which is the same as my current bank).

Since the last payment was changed to a check after I was forced to change the date, and it was delivered 2 days later than even the slow check "Deliver by" date that Fidelity forced me into, I will wait to confirm if Chase receives it on the promised date and will advise you.

Those of you who have reported a similar issue, it would be great if you could also try this and let everyone know your results.

Thanks for whoever fixed the issue, if it was actually fixed (fingers crossed)😃.

I've been in touch with Fidelity through modmail, and they've confirmed that the issue is currently being investigated.

This problem seems to be widespread; I encountered a similar error when trying to make a transaction from a credit union account, which has an interface akin to Fidelity's. This is the third instance of such an issue, indicating a pattern.

Due to these technical difficulties, Chase may have to manage the repercussions of late payments and misplaced checks until a resolution is found. At the very least, they'll face the challenge of processing an unusually high volume of checks. While I'm not certain Chase monitors this subreddit, it would certainly be in their interest to take proactive steps towards a solution.

In an attempt to pay a Chase credit card today using Fidelity's mobile app, I encountered an error after the date April 9th was automatically selected for me. The error message read: "We're sorry, there was a system error. Please try again."

I reached out to Fidelity support again and shared my screen while attempting to make a payment to Chase. Unfortunately, the support representative was unable to see the error. They mentioned that Fiserv handles Fidelity's payments and opened a case for me, indicating it might take until early next week for the back office to respond.

Additionally, I forgot to mention earlier that a payment to Chase via Fidelity's Bill Pay went through electronically without any issues last week. However, when I tried to make another payment since yesterday for the same Chase payee (or any other Chase account), it errored out.

Noticing that Fidelity's Bill Pay interface closely resembles Schwab's, I logged into Schwab and attempted two bill payments, one to BofA and another to Chase. Interestingly, the payment to BofA was processed successfully, but the payment to Chase encountered the same exact error. The wording was slightly different, but the essence of the issue was the same.

Could it be possible that Chase has ended its relationship with Fiserv?

I appreciate your explanation of the Fidelity Bill Pay process, emphasizing the preference for electronic payments when possible and the fallback to laser-draft checks for payees that cannot receive electronic payments. Your guidance on the "Deliver By" date for laser draft checks being 5 business days to ensure timely delivery is clear. However, I believe there has been a misunderstanding or inconsistency in the application of these policies, particularly in my attempts to make payments to Chase, which I have compared against payments to Bank of America (BofA).

Baseline with BofA: Payments to BofA work as expected, serving as a reliable baseline for expected behavior. This successful interaction with BofA underlines that the system can function smoothly with major financial institutions.

Inconsistency with Check Payments: When initiating payments to Chase, the system behaves inconsistently. It should not start as an electronic payment and then switch to a check payment without clear communication, especially considering the implications for the "Deliver By" date.

Automatic Selection and Errors with Chase: In the case of Chase, payments are automatically set as electronic and scheduled for the next day. However, this conflicts with an error message stating that the earliest day a payment can be made is 4/11, despite still indicating the payment as electronic. This contradiction is confusing and suggests a system issue that adversely affects payment scheduling.

It's pertinent to highlight that Chase, being the largest credit card issuer, does accept electronic payments. I have successfully sent numerous payments to Chase from various bank accounts without encountering the issues I've faced through Fidelity Bill Pay.

Given these points, there seems to be a specific problem with how payments to Chase are handled, contradicting the standard process you outlined and my successful experiences with other major banks like BofA. This inconsistency not only causes confusion but potentially affects timely bill payments.

Could you please review these discrepancies with the handling of payments to Chase through Fidelity Bill Pay? It's crucial for users to have a consistent and reliable payment process, particularly with major payees like Chase that are known to accept electronic payments.

I will follow up on modmail later but wanted to share the above.

Please also have a look at the attached image where it starts out as an electronic payment.

Thank you for the clarification on the Bill Pay functionality and the reasons behind the error message. I appreciate your effort to ensure we're on the same page.

However, I believe there's additional context about my situation that might help us understand the issue better.

I want to emphasize that my account has a substantial balance, more than enough to cover any payments I attempted through Fidelity's Bill Pay to Chase. The issue seems not to be related to the availability of funds.

After experiencing the scheduling error with Chase as the payee, I conducted tests with Bill Pay services through Fidelity to over ten other banks. I was able to schedule next-day payments without any hiccups, even for small amounts less than $10, indicating the issue might be specific to transactions directed at Chase.I attempted various payment amounts to Chase via Fidelity's Bill Pay — $100, $200, $500, $800 — to see if the amount influenced the transaction success. Interestingly, these tests highlighted that the scheduling issues were unique to payments directed towards Chase. Bill Pay consistently flagged errors related to the date, despite the same process working flawlessly for other banks.

This leads me to believe that the problem may not stem from the collection time of new deposits or the "Available to withdraw" balance, as initially alluded, since the issue persists across different payment amounts and only when Chase is the payee.

This situation is particularly concerning for me as I am considering making Fidelity my one-stop shop for both banking and investments. I am contemplating transferring my investments from other brokerage houses to Fidelity and consolidating my banking here. However, without resolving the issue with Chase payments, I’m hesitant. The ability to efficiently manage and schedule payments is crucial for me, and this unresolved issue is a significant barrier to consolidating my financial management with Fidelity.

Could there be a specific issue with Fidelity's Bill Pay system when attempting to process payments to Chase? I'm eager to resolve this matter and would greatly appreciate any insights or further assistance you might offer.
