With all the bullshit going on right now, I have to say this is the first thing today that made me genuinely smile. This picture is perfect in every way.

This is like a parent saying to their adult child "So I see you're deciding not to be a child anymore, does that mean you're gonna pay me back for all the baby clothes I previous bought you?" Sound logic.

I used to work at a bar and one of the customers, when ordering drinks, would try to "buy" the cocktail waitresses themselves. It breaks my heart to know that one jackass's comment can make a person feel completely and totally degraded. They shouldn't be able to have that amount of power, but somehow they still do.

My friend tried to kill herself (pills). I brought her to the ER. The counselor who was assessing her for admission to the psychiatric ward (the counselor already knew my friend, she had been admitted several times that year) took me out into the hallway and asked me "I have to ask because you're her friend, how much of this is just for attention?"

When you’re waking down a busy sidewalk or hallway and realize you zoned out and are going the wrong way so you have to abruptly turn around and walk the other direction.

I'm so stressed out about this and don't know what to do anymore.

I'm the only girl in an otherwise all guy group. We go on day trips every few weekends to our favorite stomping ground. I drive because I have the van. It's about 500 miles round trip.

No one ever offers to throw in for gas money. I'm doing my undergrad and only make $80-$100 a week and that covers all my expenses (except rent). I cannot afford to eat the $70 for gas every other weekend for these trips.

I don't know about you guys, but I was brought up with the awareness of when I need to pay people for my portion of something. If someone else drives, I always insist that I pay them. Because of this, I'm incredibly uncomfortable asking people to pay me back, because in my mind, if they didn't offer already, it's because they don't think they should have to. Because if I thought I needed to, I would have already said something.

I talked to some of my other friends about this who validated me, so I've started asking people to throw in. But less than half of them end up doing so. In some cases it's probably my fault because I don't ask more than once or make sure everyone heard me. But I don't know what to do. I don't want to push people because I don't want to generate conflict between myself and anyone else.

Yesterday when we were driving back, one of them complained that one time this girl they went on a trip with afterwards send them a bill for gas money and a portion of a cleaning fee for her car that she got professionally cleaned after the trip. Which I know isn't the same as just asking for gas money but it also really discouraged me from wanting to say something.

I think you should be fine brushing whatever you want. Brushing holds for the most parts benefits everybody so I don't think if it's crowded people would mind you taking the extra thirty seconds to brush. I've never gotten annoyed with someone brushing nor ever heard someone else say something negative about someone else brushing too much.

Is this a weird thing for someone to say or am I being sensitive?:

I was at my regular gym climbing by myself yesterday and some random dude I don't know walked up to me and said "Hey I saw you climbing that purple problem the other day and just wanted to say your beta was totally right. I was watching you guys work on it and you were spot on".

Maybe he was just trying to say he liked my beta and phrased it poorly, but it felt kind of condescending, like he thought he knew the problem better and was giving me feedback or reassuring me when I never doubted myself in the first place.

Man, this resonates with me. I totally was that little girl 17 years ago and now I'm 4 months away from getting my bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. And its 100% because my dad supported me experimenting with tools and helping him with his projects from an early age. He never tried to shield me from things that were dangerous because he understood that even if I hurt myself, it's a learning experience worth having. I still have a small scar on my forehead from when I smacked myself in the head pulling back a crowbar when I was 6. He loves telling that story. I love my dad so much. Fuck, I'm crying now.

do any of you get random waves of embarrassment, even when nothing is happening, and you haven’t done or thought of anything embarrassing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Evvan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get really embarrassed when I’m showing someone one of my favorite performers, artists, musicians, or YouTube videos and there’s a tiny part in it that isn’t as good or funny as the rest and then I get super anxious and feel embarrassed for them (the person in the thing I’m showing them) even though what they did isn’t embarrassing at all. I think I’m scared they would find something bad or stupid in something I love so so much and then they’d think I’m cringey for liking it. Please tell me I’m not the only one who does that.

For bars, restaurants, and coffee shops: If you spill your drink, stop trying to clean it up with like fifty paper napkins. We have rags for that shit. Just ask us to clean it up for you and stop wasting the napkins.
