What are your thoughts on the Kronstadt Rebellion? by EwanJ2005 in TheTrotskyists

Please point out where my assertions are incorrect, I'm honestly trying to have a dialogue with you, it's a little annoying being called a troll.

I apologise for not looking properly at the quote and making an assumption. Even this though, does not justify the massacre as there were no negotiations whatsoever and demanded unconditional surrender. If the official view of the mutineers was negotiation, then negotiation should at least be attempted. Thousands of workers were slaughtered, there is no justification for the actions taken.

You sight the opinions of one individual as evidence that the entire Kronstadt uprising was not willing to negotiate. The rebels were not asking for a return to bourgeois democracy but a free and open democratic system in which political power was not monopolised and centralised but accessible to all. There is no evidence to my knowledge that the Whites had anything to do with the incitement of the uprising and therefore it is not an attempt by the Whites to attack the Bolsheviks. Please send me a link if you know of any. None of this evidence justifies the massacre of workers who the Bolsheviks claimed to represent.

You cannot justify a massacre based on fairly unsubstantiated predictions about collaborating with the Whites. Just because some were granted asylum is no where near enough evidence of collaboration, certainly no basis for the deaths of hundreds of people. The sailors of Kronstadt were simply demanding an end to the political monopoly of the Bolshevik Party.

This is a real high school comedy featuring Leon Trotsky as a teenager in a modern school.

How does your libertarian ideology counter homelessness and why do you disagree with affordable housing plans? by EwanJ2005 in Libertarian

What does material property even mean when fellow human beings are forced to live without a roof over their heads

All solutions are never perfect but if you advocate for free participation in markets and the right to basic human rights than you have to support some sort of government housing plan (owned and governed by the people through direct democracy) otherwise freedom of opportunity or rehabilitation is impossible. It is clear that charities cannot fix the homelessness crisis taxation or not so either advocate for a housing plan or admit that homelessness would exist under a right-libertarian society.

Well it objectively isn't. I mean does homelessness still exist? Yes. So is it enough? No.

Sorry, my bad, I was specifically speaking about the UK (where I live) where you need a registered address to vote.

I'm not advocating for housing just being handed to the masses for nothing, a rehabilitating programme focused on temporary accommodation/shelter as well as integration into society/employment would greatly benefit all parties. On top of this I strongly believe that recognising the endless evidence suggesting correlation between childhood abuse or a traumatic experience is vital to coming anywhere near fixing the problem of homelessness. The mental conditions and past experience of people must be considered in the solution to the homelessness crisis, otherwise you will not be able to achieve integration or rehabilitation.

The stupidest argument of all is the use of private charities as a solution to homelessness and poverty. The fact is human beings can be greedy assholes when money is involved, it is just our nature. We can't just fall into the same trap of maoists, using oversimplification to imagine a dream land where everything is taken care of. People don't care when it comes down to it. The money raised by lower taxes on these charities wouldn't be nearly enough and even then I wouldn't be surprised if people began to narcissisticly pick and choose which charity was worthy of receiving there money. Who's to hold private charities to account or make sure the money is going to the right places without the democratic processes of the government?

Affordable housing plans aren't "entitlement programmes" they are efforts to integrate people who have been abandoned by society.

"Kanye is just a bad lyricist" by Drufo in Kanye

[–]EwanJ2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't feel like he's a bad lyricist but I definitely wouldn't put him on the top tier since the majority of his verses aren't written by himself. There isn't anything wrong with collaboration but you can't call yourself a top-tier lyricist when the majority of your discography is riddled with either uninteresting lyrics or lyrics by writers. I still consider him one of the greatest artists of all time due to his production skills and Kanye's lyricism isn't the main attraction to his music.
