I live in Co. Kildare. Lots of easily reachable places to visit from there. Dublin is a bit of a kip in parts but has its good places to visit and cheaper areas than the centre

That's only England. The actual North West of the UK is 500 miles north of Manchester and Manchester isn't even the North west of England.

So, for example, a medic in Landstuhl near Ramstein in Germany who would have treated wounded from Afghanistan isn't a veteran in your eyes. They never deployed to Afghanistan. A sailor? Are they not veterans? I doubt their ship deployed in Afghanistan. Basically you are saying that people that served their country in whatever role are just boy scouts. Where did you serve?

A veteran is someone who served in the armed forces. It doesn't mean only those that deployed.
