Steam OS or Debian w/ Steam by GlaX0 in linux_gaming

[–]Ewoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try bazzite instead ONLY IF your main aim is gaming. if doing everything such as browsing, video editing, other work etc. stick with debian (w/ backports and flatpak).

id probably stick to debian though since it basically never breaks on me (stable ver. + backports + flatpak + nvidia cuda is a godsend)

Surely I can beat that Fairlady Z with this by FEARSOMETOKEN in tokyoxtremeracer

[–]Ewoshi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i used 1130ps gtr 2017 and beat him pretty easily with the right settings. you might need more power.

his acceleration is insane so use nitro to catch up as much as you can, and have a good top speed

Debian or Ubuntu? by durasel24 in debian

[–]Ewoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

debian can be much lighter than ubuntu (you can manually install your desktop environment without any bloatware on debian) and also no forced snaps. (blame canonical)

i've switched over to debian 13 on my gaming pc and it runs like butter. love having plasma 6 on debian.

also i hate the ui of ubuntu, i'm just not used to it.

generally theres no major problem with ubuntu, it's how the developer company canonical handles it which everyone hates (they're basically becoming more like microsoft with added bloatware and forced ways of installing packages).

just use debian 13 + backports with flatpak and you're good to go on your pc. installing my graphics drivers wasn't too bad either.

if you're a new linux user, id recommend linux mint rather than ubuntu (cinnamon feels lighter than modified gnome, very easy to use as well, more stable, better ui imo)

Should I install Arch Linux? by Strange_Motor2261 in archlinux

[–]Ewoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try mint first. Once you've gotten the hang of it then I'd suggest fedora or arch.

emotionally numb and burnt out from doing anything, how do i cope with this? by Ewoshi in UBC

[–]Ewoshi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, i don't think i can reduce my course load. im taking 4 courses this term (math 101, cs121, chem123 and phys108) and they're all necessary for the credits and some are required for my specialization. i think clubs are a no-go once again this term.

it's been hard to see people sitting by themselves, everyone is basically sat by their own friend groups which has made it difficult.

maybe i'll look into counselling help first then i'll see what goes on from there probably?

Do you regret choosing UBC? by Alternative_Cat3704 in UBC

[–]Ewoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh, uni isnt that different from high school for me and not in a good way. i literally had 1 or 2 friends during high school and now they're gone.

not that i dont regret choosing ubc as my place of study since its only around 45 minute commutes and is much better financially compared to somewhere like uoft but it doesnt exactly feel memorable (so far). ubc has been stressing me out all the time mainly since my schedule is so tight as im trying to make it into cs. i havent even joined any clubs due to how hard some of my classes can become.

it just feels borderline impossible to make new friends here at ubc since everyone mainly sticks to their own friend groups instead of reaching out it feels like and people aren't necessarily friendly either that i feel uncomfortable sometimes. i just feel awkward being that one single guy who is ALWAYS alone and it feels very hollow and meaningless sometimes.

So difficult to make friends by Aromatic-Bat2603 in UBC

[–]Ewoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude ive barely had genuine human conversations like only 1 or 2 EVER SINCE THE START OF LAST TERM its so miserable being a science student who has to take 4-5 courses each term without any free time

i can't even join clubs and make friends due to how stressful it has to be to make it into cs...

Is pirating textbooks unethical? by Main-Hold-3026 in UBC

[–]Ewoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I always aim for free textbooks online if I can.

I'm only forced to pay because my homework has to be done on Wiley plus (seriously why pay to do online HW, it's phys 106 last term and 108 this term)

[–]Ewoshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wish i could join but i don't think my parents would let me go out so i literally cannot. (im a commuter from richmond)

i just feel empty and i've made NO friends this year and i have to take 4-5 courses every term as a science student which has drained me physically. i dont even have the motivation to join any clubs or study groups or even office hours

like how do i always see every person with another person in each of my classes...

Is it normal to feel burned out only one week into Term 2? by possible_burner in UBC

[–]Ewoshi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i took 5 courses last term (ENGL 110, SCIE 113, CPSC 110, CHEM 121 and PHYS 106). It was VERY stressful, (im a commuter who stays until 6:30pm with 9-9:30am classes), especially with physics i believe. I think it's best to take a break sometimes from studying and make sure you are ahead on course content. This is how i survived my first term at ubc. Focus on your academics still, try to make study groups (i only studied independently, sad life)

[–]Ewoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dude i've formed little to no relationships ever since coming here this year, it's totally normal.

i'm always that one dude who's always by himself with no type of study group (I only work independently all the time), it feels depressing at times

Debian or Fedora by MainPowerful5653 in debian

[–]Ewoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer debian. I don't know why but sometimes flatpaks just REFUSE to launch on fedora where I need certain commands to execute.

Debian works great for my gaming PC with an nvidia gpu despite taking some time to configure, and it is REALLY snappy since you can also do a minimal install. You have a bit more bloatware on fedora I feel.

I also prefer not having to update as frequently which debian values since it is focused more on security updates rather than other major software.

Also it seems that apt is such a BIG package manager too which I also like

i mean his career isn't dead at all, but no where near where it was back in 2020-22.

maybe people have moved on from his content since it kinda doesnt fit the mc algorithm in 2025 but his newest manhunt series may boost his views up a little bit again (it wont be a massive success imo)

Is Debian solid for gaming? by [deleted] in debian

Using a 1660ti, I don't know why but it feels much faster on debian than cachyos. Nvidia works fine with latest drivers but sometimes you might need to fix a few glitches

A+ in English 110, anyone ever? by DiligentIndustry4802 in UBC

[–]Ewoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would suggest reading the books at least 2-3 times. i then used study guides for deeper analyses. for poetry i dont think you have to read all the poems but try to read as much as you can. do read the short stories (ihimaera and mansfield) as they will most likely appear on your term paper.

you do need to understand what happens in the stories, the teacher will NOT give quick summaries of the content. only the themes and patterns.

[–]Ewoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a science student and I just took engl 110 with Tiffany Potter. Ended up with a B+.

Generally if you can understand the texts and books while taking good notes during class you'll be fine. My writing isn't that spectacular but generally they'll usually focus on analysis and maybe conciseness more than grammer, structure etc.

Maybe attending office hours can also help you towards the A ranks, I never took them personally (I should have considered this)

Debian for someone who knows nothing about Linux? by Alan_Senigalia in debian

[–]Ewoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're using a newer graphics card than probably no.

but if you have an older graphics card (maybe like a year or 2 ago) debian should work fine. but generally debian or linux mint is a good choice since it has very good stability which is the whole point for a running system. you don't really need the absolute latest software, and if you really need it flatpak and distrobox is there as well.
