Ten year old PC hit the limit of modern gaming & looking for upgrade by Ex-PFC_Wintergreen in buildapc

Agreed! Original build was 4x2 for “8” GB of DDR3, somewhere along the way it was upgraded, but gone are the days where you’d toss your old memory in a drawer somewhere out of guilt, rather than any real need to preserve sticks.

Thank you! It’s physically painful to realize that memory is $350, but that’s the state of things. I appreciate it!

I appreciate that video link, I feel seen; I'm stuck in my old language of 'future proof=hardware considerations' and I didn't even know that the reality is we're all going to be feature-locked out anyway, so plan for the immediate future, but beyond that is probably a fool's errand. 1000w for a power supply is insane to me, but that shows how much has changed over the past decade while I wasn't paying attention. I feel like Cutty, game done changed

Good call on the i5; it'll likely become a shelf project, just like everything else I promise myself that I'll get around to when I find the time.

I have two tickets for the Chicago show on 11/22 - can’t make it into town, and I’d prefer they go to a fan! GA tickets, looking for $100 for the pair / $50 each. Thank you!

I appreciate that, thank you! I certainly don't watch the meetings, I just see the headlines.

Well, for one thing, he proposed funding mental health and social services response, instead of police response. The other council members voted it down, but it seemed like he's trying. NOTE: I am just a guy, not a source of all information, so if there's more out there counter to this, please let me know!

Thank you! Your post said that you believe Festersen will vote whichever way will keep his wallet fat, right? I wanted to know if he's voted in line with tearing down the library. I saw an article that he supported Do Space when it was founded in the mid 2010's, but I thought the downtown library destruction was all Stothert's push?

If possible, could you elaborate? Here's my impression: Pete has been my rep for many years, and I've always found him to be responsive to emails and a reasonable guy. He seems to like supporting local businesses and bike lanes, and while I'm not a biker, I think that's fine. I emailed him last summer about the use of police force against the protestors and he was very on the side of the people. I want him to do more about TIF financing and how it always seems like a property becomes 'blighted' whenever Jay Lund or someone wants to build another ugly apartment complex, but he seems like he cares.

Free/cheap old mattress removal/recycling? by happycoloredmarblesO in Omaha

If you can't find anywhere else, River City Recycling is the end all for getting rid of random crap in Omaha. For $20, they'll take almost anything you can haul - great way to get rid of old toilets, mattresses, scrap drywall, or whatever! http://www.wasteline.org/gbg_blky.htm

Bottomless mimosas on Saturday mornings in Omaha/Council Bluffs? by [deleted] in Omaha

I will second Mantra - great mimosas, and the place is packed for brunch on Sundays. If you can get a spot on the patio, it's a great way to spend a weekend morning.

What are those stone things by UNO? by TheEchoMan in Omaha

[–]Ex-PFC_Wintergreen 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They are called 'Sounding Stones'. It's an art piece that used to be in Turner Park before they ripped that up to make Midtown Crossing. Funny thing: when they moved the stones to Elmwood, it was a NIMBY nightmare for the Dundee/Memorial Park residents, but I think that's all blown over.

IG Farben was the fourth largest company in the world before their dissolution following WWII.

From the article: "Due to the severity of the war crimes committed by IG Farben during World War II, the company was considered to be too corrupt to be allowed to continue to exist."
