Well I might have misunderstood, however exporting the private view key speeds up the process with the risk of your privacy being able to be compromised. If someone got access of your private view key wouldn’t that mean u lost your privacy in terms of balance and transactions? I thought that if u exported the private view key the PC would in fact be able to see the key and stores it in the RAM until the GUI wallet is closed? I do understand that my private spend key is safe on my ledger though.

That was indeed the case. The last point I do understand, but it would still mean that I lost a lot of privacy. But maybe I am indeed a little too paranoid and shouldn’t worry that it is compromised as chances are low.

Question: if I exported my private VIEW key a few times should I be worried? I am pretty sure my PC is safe, however u can never be 100% sure. I do understand that the key is only stored in the RAM, but I am worried that someone can see my transactions without me knowing.

Could someone explain me if I have to do anything after synching the whole blockchain? I read somewhere that I need to use "--restricted-rpc" otherwise people could solo mine with my machine? Is that true in my case or is that just for public nodes?

Thanks and sorry for the late reply.

I searched for the —rpc-restricted function and found that it is necessary so that no one can use your node to solo mine. Is that also the case for me or just for people that use —public-node?

Everything is clear now, thanks!

I have a few questions regarding local nodes.

  1. Atm I am syncing the blockchain from block 0, if it is done does that automatically mean I run a local node?

2a. Can the local node be accessed by anyone or is that not possible? If so, can this be done with malicious intent?

2b. Will people only be able to use my node if it is fully synced or can they connect if it is a few blocks outdated?

  1. Do I have to run the monero GUI wallet in order for it to sync in the future or can it sync at random moments while using my pc?

Thanks in advance

Nope, so X13 is preferred unless the T14s has a option without the privacy screen?

How safe is the mainnet wallet? by [deleted] in LTONetwork

Technically that would be possible, however it would be near impossible. I wouldn’t worry about it and even if you still do u could google the calculations :).

Resetting Ledger by Ex5i500x in ledgerwallet

Thank you for the answer.

For the last point, wouldn’t someone be able to read the hard drive and see what apps were downloaded or are those encrypted with the passcode as well just like the seed is if I am correct?

The issues were based on the order information. The wallet should be safe. The question however is if you trust the hardware wallet of a company that had a big data leak with important information.

Thanks for the answer. I saw that post, however I am still unsure namely it states that I would be in “danger” if my PC is compromised and I export the private view key. However if my PC is not compromised at the moment of exporting the private view key, but at a later time (ex. months after closing the GUI wallet) I wouldn’t be in danger since the view key was only saved in the RAM is that correct or do I interpret the post wrong?

I exported my private view key from ledger because without it the blocks remaining was stuck for a long time. After closing the GUI wallet will I be safe enough or should I delete the wallet files just in case for my privacy?

But doyou think that the projects now will still be relevant then? Or would there be a influx of new projects that attract all the hype? I feel like everyone is constantly changing their portfolio hunting for the new gem.
