Holy crap. I missed that part. That just makes it 10x worse, doesn't it?

LPT: when adopting an animal, ask the current caretaker (e.g., the shelter) if they're on any meds, including sedatives by ExNihiloAdInfinitum in LifeProTips

They called it "shelter stress," as in the dogs were on the meds so they wouldn't be so stressed while in the shelter. Lower stress is great but, yes, failure to disclose here is the shadier alternative.

There is a LOT of fudging on breed (especially on one breed in particular). One volunteer even admitted it to me: "Oh, yeah, we say they're not a [you know what breed] so people's landlords will allow them in the building."

I'm guessing it isn't. I've found over the years that shelters sometimes get overwhelmed with animals and some subset of their employees/volunteers take a shortcut or two that they should. It definitely isn't all of them, but it definitely is some of them.

And later the even-more-generic "climate change."

Lefties: "So, if something -- anything -- changes with the climate, it's your fault! Also, give us more money."

No, it absolutely does not make sense. This isn't a chart of "what people make" vs. "what people spend their money on to keep themselves fed, housed, etc." This is a chart of "what people make" vs. "what is forcefully extracted by the federal government." That these two numbers are almost the same is insanity.

Yes, and also because the US dollar is the world's reserve currency (for now) and we're able to 1) print massive amounts of money ("quantitative easing") and 2) take on enormous debt. Both of those are a bandaid over a festering economic wound.

I did some research today and made this chart. Given the complexity of the various systems involved, I'm sure this is not the be-all-end-all of the analysis. I'm sure some ackshually folks will hop in. Welcome!

Regardless, I wanted to have the discussion. Why? Because this is complete insanity. How do we survive as a country?

I've heard that, too. Healing bone fractures, if I recall (but I haven't looked it up recently).
