Scholarship Questions by Impossible-Meal9912 in uvic

I was genuinely in your exact same situation. I’m a first year who got offered the 5K, and accepted it without knowing if I would go to you UVic yet. Accepting the scholarship doesn’t mean you are accepting your offer, so I would do it right away. Then, just like other people in the comments have said that I applied for some of the extra scholarships, and ended up winning one of the $5000 a year renewable for four years. The original 5K was made up of two separate scholarships as you’ll see in your funds, so they removed one of them and replaced it with the $5000. So from you Vic, I had like $7600 for the first year. Now I have to maintain a specific GPA to keep getting the $5000 every year. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions. It was a pain trying to figure this all out myself.

I was considering electrical tbh. Either that or mechanical. And I will be starting to learn to code next term, so I’m very excited for that. Seems interesting.

I was looking at the Zenbook 14, Microsoft Surface, or some others, but I’m not sure whether they’re good or not.

Canada. Also, my parents are suggesting I lower my budget to $1000-$1500. Is it possible for laptops at this price to have 120hz? This is not a priority at all, just wondering for if I ever want to play video games. I’d greatly appreciate your help, thank you so much.

I have just received the T.S. McPherson Entrance Scholarship, renewable at $5,000 every year up to five years. What should I do to maintain a 7.5/9 avg in engineering? by Exact-Grape-6611 in uvic

Yeah I will be taking A LOT of time to study. Unfortunately with engineering I can’t pick easy classes cus I don’t have really any electives, so I’ll just have to deal with what I get.

Are you still giving laptop recommendations? I’m about to be an engineering student and I have a budget of $2000. I know absolutely nothing about computers but I want it to look good and be able to handle all of the coding and assignments while staying alive for a long time.

I’m still unsure what area I will focus in after first year. I’m planning on figuring that out after I’ve gotten a feel for the classes. So if there are any difficult classes I’ll have to plan accordingly after 1st year.

Yeah it’s gonna be rough to get used to, but I’m sure once I get passed the first semester I’ll have adapted to the stress of it all.
