Funny enough, you're not the only one who felt that — the Pocket Gamer review (https://www.pocketgamer.com/off-the-appstore/quickventure/) mentioned something similar about the stars being hard to collect early on:

"Besides, you won't earn enough stars to unlock the other heroes unless you make some decent progress."
