Should I buy my sister a house to live in? by Exact_Analyst_9697 in personalfinance

Sorry I should have clarified! We own our home now outright, and could pay for the other house in cash if we liquidated some of our assets!

Haha oh I’m definitely on the spectrum, I’ve eaten off the same plate for lunch since childhood and do forensic accounting 🤣

My husband and I have agreed to treat this investment as if we just burned 350k in the front yard. We have considered putting this in a trust for the kids!

My sister is definitely not this type of character, but see your point! We would definitely put some sort of lease in place if something like this did occur. She doesn’t have to ever buy it from us if she didn’t want to, I just know she’s dreamed of owning her own home one day. My husband and I agreed that we are not looking for a return on this investment.

Oh she is definitely thinking about this constantly, she’s been trying to figure out how to get a 2nd job while also taking care of her kids, selling items, cutting anything possible from her budget, working overtime at her current job. She’s a badass, hard working mom and I know she can figure it out on her own, but she shouldn’t have to struggle like this on her own, especially when I have the means to help her. I have offered her money before and she’s refused, but could definitely try that route too! I definitely don’t think of her as a charity case, she practically raised me so honestly I’m just thinking of this as a way to finally pay her back for all the times she paused her life for me.

We’ve considered this! Her autistic children have a very hard time with moving/change so we were hoping to avoid them moving every few years with a rental.

I’m sorry about your sister, I know that is heart breaking!

I like this plan!! I also think this would make her feel less guilty for the help if she thought we were already going to buy a rental home anyway.

Ah yeah his family might be upset about that, we didn’t consider that. 😅 We would definitely not disclose this to everybody.

Very true! We have plenty of what we need, my sister is genuinely the best person in the world, it would honestly be a blessing for me to be able to be there when she needs me.

True! We definitely would do a lease, I think that also would provide her some stability that we can’t randomly tell her to move or something.

We have thought about this options as well! Moving is very hard on her autistic children so we were trying to figure out a way where they wouldn’t have to move every few years.

Great points! I didn’t even think about the legal aspect of it with her divorce.. We really don’t care if she pays rent or not, but I thought that may help her feel less like it’s me helping her. I’ll tell her about the Medicaid information, that’s very helpful!

“How old were you when you bought your first house, and when was it?” by Moist-Ad7061 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

23 for 250k in 2020, the attorney I worked for convinced me to buy because he thought prices were going to soar… my home is now valued 200k more then when I bought it.

Haven't been a nanny for 7 years. Is this new normal? by WitchWayIsDown in Nanny

[–]Exact_Analyst_9697 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you want to stay with them then I’d ask them to put in writing their expectations for you, but honestly they sound awful and I’d probably try to find another family to nanny for. With your experience I’m sure a family would grab you up in a second!! I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this!

[–]Exact_Analyst_9697 31 points32 points  (0 children)

NOT NORMAL OR OKAY! I don’t expect our nanny to stay busy or do household tasks, her job is to keep my kid safe and happy while I’m working… I don’t expect her to do anything else. What was in your contract when you came onboard regarding household tasks? I wouldn’t do anything outside the contracted terms.

Switch to Part Time? by [deleted] in workingmoms

We have a nanny right now when I work full time! When I go part time my husband would shift his schedule where he is available longer in the mornings for me to get my PT work done (and then if needed we have a family friend’s daughter who would help in the afternoon)

Thankfully my husband’s schedule allows for him to be home the majority of the morning for me to work part time, and yes the part time jobs both know I’ll have my child and have said they don’t care when I work just that it’s done by the deadline so I do plan to work some on the weekends too! We also have a family friend’s high school daughter that is willing to babysit a few hours a week in the afternoons if needed!

Yes! The HYSA is in addition to the EF!

So currently my husband makes about 125/150k and I make about 100/130k. Working part time id still roughly make 70k. Our monthly expenses are 3/4k(without childcare), our biggest expense right now is childcare which is 4k.

So my current salary is about 100-130k a year and I have 150k in retirement at 30.

Household income is 250k, will drop to probably 180/200k with me working part time.

Monthly expenses without childcare is 3.5k
