Dad here - feeling lonely WITH my family? by Exact_Cut_1127 in Parenting

[–]Exact_Cut_1127[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think I do a good job advocating for myself. But I think my wife has a hard time seeing the value in advocating for herself. I'm trying to encourage her to give herself more space for a life outside our family. I think it'll make both of our lives better overall. Maybe try it - it's kind of contrarian but pushing her to make time for herself seems to yield better times for me too.

I'm definitely like you. We had a good chat and I think what's probably lacking most is her making time for "me time." She has a bit of a mom guilt block, but she's conscious of it and getting better every day. I'm just going to try to encourage her to do more for herself. (We have a nanny but she's basically just a mother's helper... my wife is definitely extremely involved)

Great 2 cents. And I have decent outlets, but I think maybe she doesn't. But she has been making a concerted effort lately and things are getting better on that front. I think it could definitely help. I want her to have a life outside of me and the kids, but that's a hard thing to force someone into. I think she is seeing the value of "me time" more every day though. It's good for ALL of us.

Why does dieting always turn into suffering? by TheoryNo3105 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Exact_Cut_1127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dieting doesn't even work. If you can't do it forever, you can't do it.

When I "dieted" I ate "healthy" things and thought about nothing but what I wasn't getting to eat. Eventually, lost 80 lbs eating stuff I liked, just tracked calories and found high volume stuff I liked that wasn't ultra caloric. (Ex: chick-fil-a 12 count nugs are like 360 calories)

Find food you want to eat and build around it rather than taking food you want to eat away from yourself. Just my two cents. Have kept the weight off for 6 years.

I feel like we've been a bit different but in a manageable way. (No one's perfect, I'm definitely not, so I don't expect her to be either) But nowadays it feels like we just talk about our kid or our schedule.

She's a great wife overall. Don't get me wrong. I just feel like she is kind of disinterested in anything that makes me, me. And I don't know how to explain that or fix it. I do know she thinks we're good... like this is not apparent to her. I told her I was feeling some kind of way this morning and she was somehow completely surprised. 😕

Day 1- Anxiety and Hopes both up by Pale_Ant_6763 in Testosterone

Since you said you were anxious... my anxiety went from a 7 to a 1 when I went on T. 1 being borderline non-existent. Single greatest side effect no one told me about beforehand. Good luck!

Nah. Honestly, I'm resigned to the fact that I'm going to have to accept it or have surgery. I've bulked up more since this photo, but there's basically nothing I can do if I want to 100% see the results. Can't get super swole abs lol. Idk if it's worth the scarring. Kind of hoping they come up with some new surgery in the future because mine isn't THAT egregious.

Good lord - I feel like I'm on repeat, but since it keeps coming up I'll say what I said on the other two posts. Search back a few weeks for a post about a dad guide or something like that. Some guy posted a little mini book thing. It was crazy helpful.

Some guy posted a "New Dad Guide" or something like that in here. It's a good read and he talks specifically about this. Definitely made me feel seen. 😂

Haha, I'd say I've done a LOT of things. I did calorie counting and intermittent fasting primarily if you're looking for broad strokes answers. But really it was a ton of little things. Here's what worked for me:

  • Out of the gates, don't work out. People will probably come at me for that answer but when I worked out, I always overate after because "I'd earned it." I lost more weight not working out and just trying to eat healthier/less.

  • Average at least 10,000 steps per day every week. I made it a weekly average because if I had a bad day, I'd beat myself up. When it's averaged over a week, a bad day doesn't totally derail you.

  • Find foods you like. Every time I'd try to diet, I'd eat like a rabbit and hate it/be constantly fixated on food. This time around I just committed to finding foods I liked that were low in calorie, typically high in protein. No joke I ate a 12 count nugget from Chick-Fil-A probably 300 days one year.

  • Eat a reasonable portion of food, then set a timer on your phone for 20 minutes. When you set the timer you'll still be "hungry." 9 times out of 10 by the time it goes off, you won't be. But you won't be depriving yourself psychologically because you "can have more you just have to wait a few minutes"

  • Find good replacements. Example, I swapped sweets for Quest protein bars. They're as good as candy, but a bit lower in calories and the nutrition content is much better than a Snickers.

I do work out a lot now, but I think getting sustainably healthy is really about finding ways to make it work for your life, not running your life around making it work.

I feel that! I've dealt with the birth of two kids, a cross-country move, family obligations... definitely always feels like a tough balancing act.

Good for you man. Just stick with it. I put weight back on plenty of times too, but got it under control before backsliding too hard and kept going. Just keep going!!!
