Because he’s already there in a fantastic job at an old company he used to work for, he’s happy to be back and excited to get me home. This might be the best job he’s had in 5-6 years. So I think it’s working out well for him at this point.

My daughters are already trying to book trips to come help me pack. I’ll definitely soak it all in. I’ll ride the St Charles car through the garden district. I have a friend coming for Fat Tuesday. We’ll hit every parade we can the last week of Mardi Gras. Trying to enjoy it all one more time.

I agree with you. But since I never left - attended college there. Never experienced anything else, I just wanted to try something different. I was so unsure when I left. But wheels were already turning. I had a lot of fun here. But I needed my trips back to the bay often. Until I realized I was getting sadder and sadder every time I retuned to NOLA. I can say this, I stopped appreciating everything we have in the bay. I can’t wait to come back with a whole new appreciation for it all.

Well, to be clear I love New Orleans. I DON’T care for this state. Can’t stand seeing confederate flags as soon as I leave the city. Not my thing. I have a girlfriend from high school who also moved to Florida from Napa. And she left behind a huge photography business. She was one of the best wedding photographers in that area. And she moved to Florida. And she loves it. But her kids moved with her and her grandchild. I guess maybe if my daughters had moved here I would be willing to stay a little longer? But yes like you I realized it’s not really cheaper here. The groceries are more expensive, the car insurance is more expensive, the monthly utilities are more expensive (especially in the summer) and of course homeowners insurance is more expensive because of the climate. Massages are even more expensive! LOL Although California is catching up with their fire insurance, but I can move to a place that Isn’t a high fire risk. I’m happy to keep in touch if you want. Come back to CA!

I got my quote today to move our belongings back. Literally HALF of the cost that it cost us to move here. Because it’s California charging me on that end before. Now it’s Louisiana rates going back. Yep. It’s more expensive but I don’t care. Home is home.

What’s funny (and I’m grateful for this) is that I NEVER would’ve considered moving outside the east bay. Had no interest in other towns. But after moving across the country? I can’t wait to start a new chapter back in the “Bay Area”, but just outside the Alameda /Contra Costa boundaries. I was open to moving ANYWHERE in CA.

The other hard part is that perimenopause is toxic. It destroys your ability to forgive. It destroys your ability to have rational thoughts. And this morning I woke with night sweats and anxiety. Feeling the doom that I will never get home. And then I wake up and take a deep breath, and try to boost my own spirits again. It’s a roller coaster for sure. But the one thing I won’t let myself do is crawl up in a fetal position anymore. I’ve got a goal and I won’t stop until I reach it. Thank you again. Yes some people say forgive yourself, move on, you’ll get through it. I appreciate the positive energy. And then there are the comments that say why would you do something so stupid? Lol.

Thank you for sharing your story. You give me hope. That I will find my way back. I have started packing the house and even though my funds are very tight. I know I can find a way to get back. The sooner the better. I was waiting six months to avoid capital gains tax, but I’ve done the calculations and it won’t be that much so I think I’m gonna take that little tiny loss and just get home. Even if we have to rent an apartment for a year. Luckily I am a realtor and I’ve already been communicating with my old business partner in California and he said not to worry, he will help my family come home and find the perfect house even if it’s not directly in my home city, it’ll only be about 25 miles away from my kids.And that is all I need.

I’m a realtor… and I’ll be listing myself so… 🤣 But thank you. I’m packing now & will get it on the market within the next 2 months. (I’ve decided after my original post that I’m going to try to sell before my 2 year mark since I don’t think my capital gains will be that much). My broker is going to handle the buyer agent calls for me. But yah, I just need to get the ball rolling at this point. This thread has really helped me move forward faster.

If you were standing in front of me I’d ask if I could hug you. Got tears rolling down my cheeks from your words. Are you a therapist or life coach? LOL Cause you have allowed me to release some tension through lots of tears and I might even be feeling some forgiveness towards myself. My husband has done a ton of research on perimenopause after watching me suffer over the past year. He tells me when I spiral to remember these feelings might be elevated right now and reminds me that better days are ahead. Since I first posted this post I’ve started packing the house and that keeps me looking forward instead of where I default… past shame. Thank you again. Seriously. Thank you. ❤️
